“I know that. However, I want us to have time for each other and to be able to get more than a couple of hours of sleep a night. That shit isn’t good for you. Just send them today and see how they like it. If they utterly hate it, I’ll shut up about it.”

I held my breath. It took her a minute or so before she nodded. “Okay, if Wren says they have room, I’ll send them today and we’ll see. If I’m not paying rent much longer, then I might be able to afford to send them there,” she mused. I didn’t argue. When it came time to pay, I was going to be the one doing it. She’d have to learn not to resist me on things like this. I meant it. They were my kids now just like she was mine.

After everyone was full of breakfast, she worked on getting their hands and faces cleaned and teeth brushed while I contacted Wren. She was thrilled to hear we were going to try. It wasn’t much before eight o’clock when I got them secured in her car and we headed down the road. It felt damn good to be acting like a family. This was the beginning of the rest of our lives.

Tonya: Chapter 12

I should’ve known that our peace and quiet wouldn’t last long. The past few days with Law at the compound had been perfect. He’d moved most of his stuff into the guesthouse with us. The kids were getting used to having him around and finding him in bed each morning with me. We ate breakfast together as a family then went our separate ways, depending on what was happening.

I had given in to his pleas to let the kids finish the week at the daycare after they came home so happy after the first day. I couldn’t seem to deny them their fun. They loved everything about the farm and being with other kids. That’s where they were today. I was busy working at the house on my accounts while Law was busy doing whatever for the club.

That was another great thing. I hadn’t been staying up late to work the past two nights. I did stay up for a bit, but that was due to much more pleasurable things. Law couldn’t go without making love to me at night. I didn’t object at all. He gave me more orgasms and the most intense ones of my life.

I was happily working when it all came to a screeching halt. My phone rang. Grabbing it, I checked to see who it was. It wasn’t a number I recognized. Thinking it might be one of my clients using a different number, which happened at times, I answered it.

“Hello, Tonya speaking,” I said cheerfully.

“I know who it is, bitch. Where are my kids, Tonya? They’d better not be at that fucking biker compound like Prissy said. You have no right to keep them from me or to have them around those kinds of people. This restraining order is bullshit,” Dan snarled into the phone. My heart sank. So much for him getting a clue and staying away. He wasn’t even supposed to contact me according to what I read on the order.

“Dan, you’re not supposed to call me or contact me in any way. Didn’t the police explain to you what that order covered? You have to stay four hundred feet or more away from me and the kids. You’re not allowed to call me. If you need to contact me, you need to contact the court representative they assigned and that person will get a hold of me. The kids aren’t to be around you. Not while you’re like this,” I explained calmly. It didn’t help. It only made him madder.

“Fuck you, Tonya. I should’ve known you’d take my kids and hook up with some trash. I bet you were cheating on me the whole time we were married, weren’t you? Does Dylan even belong to me? You got knocked up around the time Soleil started hanging with that bunch. Which one is his dad, or don’t you know? Prissy said you’re with one they call Law. The one who warned me at the jail. Does he know you’re sleeping with his club too?” The hate in his voice was tangible. My anger began to bubble up.

“Dan, don’t you dare talk to me like this. I’m not the cheater, you are. I never once cheated on you or even thought of it while we were together. That was all you. So yes, Dylan is your son. As for the club, they’re better men than you ever will be. Thank God I have them to show my boys how to treat women and kids. Yes, Law is my boyfriend and I’m not sleeping with anyone else but him.”

“Whore! My kids don’t need to see that. You should keep your legs closed,” he shouted.

“Like you keep your dick in your pants? I’m not doing anything wrong. The kids adore Law. He’s been more of a father to them in the short time he’s known them than you ever were. Go away, Dan. Figure out your life. Stop the drinking and drugs and clean yourself up. If you do that, maybe you can have a relationship with your kids one day.” I said the drug part as a wild guess. His behavior was too erratic for him not to be on something.

I heard something crash in the background and he spewed swear word after swear word at me. I hung up. I didn’t need to take that. My phone immediately rang again. I put it on silent and ignored it.

I paced the house, trying to calm down and figure out how to tell Law what Dan said. I knew he’d want to go track his ass down and beat the hell out of him. I was hoping to figure out something to say to keep that from happening. Not because I cared what happened to Dan, but because I didn’t want Law to get into trouble.

Deciding I couldn’t stay in the house and I needed fresh air, about fifteen minutes later, I went outside. I didn’t have a destination in mind. Seeing the custom garage, I decided I’d go see what it was like. I was curious about where Falcon and the other three built the bikes they sold. I’d seen some photos that Soleil had shown me and although I didn’t know much about bikes, I could appreciate how beautiful they were.

I was almost to the garage, which was close to the gate. My attention was caught by screaming coming from the other side. I moved closer to see who it was. In the gate there were sections of glass which allowed you to look out. As I got closer, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Dan was standing outside the compound, pacing and screaming as he shook his fist at the gate.

He looked wild and out of control. He looked worse than he had last time. His hair was shaggy and in need of a haircut. His eyes were sunk into his face and had dark rings underneath them. His clothes were dirty and wrinkled all to hell. I barely recognized the man I once was married to. I ran up to the gate. He saw me and came hurtling up to press his face to the glass. I could hear him clearly despite the barrier.

“Open this fucking gate right now, Tonya! I want to see my kids. If you don’t, I’ll call the cops and tell them you kidnapped them.”

“Dan, you’re crazy. There’s no way the cops will believe that. They’ll only arrest you. You’ve violated the restraining order.”

“Fuck that order. They have no right to keep me away from my wife and kids. Law thinks because he’s a cop they’ll back him, but I’ll show him,” he screamed back.

“I’m not your wife, Dan. You can’t be around the kids in your condition. You’d scare them to death.”

Suddenly, I was lightly gripped by the shoulders and moved back away from the gate. I glanced back to find Lance standing there. He wasn’t alone. Behind him came Terror, Menace, Ghost, Falcon, Tiger, and Blaze. They all had grim looks on their faces.

“Tonya, honey, go into the clubhouse with Lance. Let us take care of this. He’s too out of control for you to reason with him,” Falcon said softly.

I hated to leave them to deal with my mess but I knew he was right. Seeing me was only inflaming Dan more. I slowly walked away. This made him scream even louder and bang on the gate with his fists. With a sinking heart, I went inside to await the outcome. I knew someone would have called Law. Wherever he was, he wouldn’t waste time getting here.

I sat down at the bar and waited in an uneasy silence with Lance. We weren’t the only ones there for long. Maybe five minutes later, the door came open and in marched Soleil. She had Lara with her. She came straight to me and gave me a big hug.

“Falcon called and told me about Dan.”

“God, Soleil, he’s insane. I’ve never seen him so out of control. I swear, he’s on something. I’m scared that Law is going to show up and do something to him. If he does, he’ll go to jail. I can’t lose him. Dan isn’t worth it.”
