Thenightdidn’tstartoff too bad.

Kyle surprised Andy by arriving at the apartment at 9:30 to pick her up. Normally, Andy didn’t much care for surprises, but in this case, it probably saved her a lot of stewing over how to act around him in his car.

Which, holy shit, what a freaking car!

“That’s a Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4,” Andy said as they headed down her front walkway to the gorgeous blue roadster waiting at the end of it.

“You know your cars.” Kyle opened the door for her with an impressed smile.

“I know this one.” She sank into the sumptuous black fabric of the passenger seat. Kyle closed her in, then settled himself behind the wheel, casting a curious look her way. One that drew her gaze from the tricked-out dash to his. “The Aventador is my friend’s dream car. Carson’s really into supercars, but this is his favorite. I bought him a model kit last year for his birthday.”

As she rambled, Kyle cocked his head in a way she couldn’t interpret.

Shit. She’d mentioned Carson. She wasn’t supposed to do that. Andy glanced away.

“Sounds like your friend has great taste.” Kyle chuckled softly to himself. “And someone else has some competition.”

Wait. What?

What did that mean?

But she didn’t have long to mull things over as the Lambo’s engine fired up with a highly distracting roar.

Zipping out onto the boulevard, Kyle treated her to another belly-fluttering smile. “You look lovely, by the way.”

“Thanks. My roommate did my hair.” Andy smoothed her low, wispy updo, glad she’d let Kory talk her into something with a couple dozen bobby pins, considering Kyle’s ride was a convertible. Although one of the pins was kind of pokey.

“Is your roommate a hair stylist?”

“No,” Andy said, hand falling away from the errant pin, “but her aunt is, and she raised Kory, so Kory knows a thing or two.”

“You’ve got some interesting friends.”

“Yeah. They’re cool.”

“Speaking of” — his gaze flashed to her again as they stopped behind a line of cars — “I’m glad you and Luke are getting along so well. The lessons are really good for him, I think.”

Which lessons?

Did he know something?

“I’ve never seen my boy smile so much out on the water as when he’s been teaching you to surf.”

Andy relaxed into a snort. “You haveheardhim, haven’t you?”

“Ah, that. I guess Luke does take a tough love approach to the instruction.”

“Tell me about it.”

Kyle chuckled. “He gets it from his mom, you know. She was the best surf instructor on the beach long before Hunter took the reign.”

“His mother was a surf instructor? I didn’t know that.”

“During the summer, yeah.” Kyle took off through the light, deftly cutting through traffic. “That’s how we met actually. My parents are really into fitness—”

“Mine too!”

“I’m sure they are, Miss Olympics.”
