“He did. Talked about it the entire ride home.”

“Something tells me you’ll have a hard time keeping him off the ice now.”

“I still can’t believe you did that for him.”

“It was nothing.” I shrugged.

“No, Harper, it wasn’t.” Something passed over Mason’s expression as he watched me out of the corner of his eye. “Any guesses where we’re going yet?”

The ice rink came into view in the distance, and I sat a little straighter. “I thought you said we’d be alone.”

“We will, don’t worry. I called in a favor.”

“You… I don’t know what to say to that.”

“I’m sure you’ll find a way to thank me.” Mason smirked, sending a bolt of lust through me.

God, when he was like this—all flirty and cute, it was hard to remember why I needed to keep a level head around him.

He pulled into the small parking lot and cut the engine. The ride had been tense. Not awkward, but that anticipatory kind of silence where you didn’t know what to say or do. Because you knew one word or look or touch could change everything.

“Why did you bring me here, Mason?” I asked, trying to get a read on his thoughts.

“Come on,” he said, climbing out of his car. He came around and opened the passenger door, and I got out. But he didn’t let me go. Instead, he pinned me to the side of his car and toyed with my hair.

“What?” I asked.

“Scottie is going to be so fucking happy when I tell him you said yes.”

“Said yes?”

“You’re telling me you didn’t hear him this morning, at the arena?” His brow lifted with mild amusement.

“I may have heard something, but I didn’t think he was serious.”

“You do know Scottie, right? Cute kid. Tells it like it is. Interprets everything literally. Has a really twisted sense of humor, apparently.”

“So when he said you’re always looking at my mouth…”

“He pays attention.”

I sucked in a sharp breath, aware of every part of Mason pressed up against every part of me. He was all hard muscle and raw power, and he felt so good.

It was the best kind of foreplay. The anticipation and build up. Not that I’d ever gotten this far with a guy before. But with Mason, it was different. There had been little moments all leading to this point.

“Come on.” He hooked his fingers into my jean belt loops and kissed my forehead. “We should head inside.”

I wanted to argue, to demand a proper kiss, but I was too stunned to formulate words. Let alone try and take control.

Mason took my hand and tugged me toward the familiar building. “We’ve got the ice to ourselves.”

“Okay…”

“I want you to show me some more of your moves.”

“I can do that.”

He glanced down at me intently. “I want you to show me everything.”
