MASON

“Harper.”I kissed her shoulder. “I gotta go, or else Coach will—”

“Hmm, what time is it?” She stretched out like a damn house cat, the sheet falling down her body.

A body I’d gotten well acquainted with last night.

Fuck, she was perfect.

And she was mine.

I was a lucky sonofabitch.

“Early. Go back to sleep. I’ll see you later.” I pressed another kiss to her shoulder before dragging my tired ass out of bed and throwing on my clothes. I needed to stop at the house first and grab my things for practice. It was on the way, so it wasn’t a big deal.

Once I was dressed, I slipped out of her dorm room and made my way downstairs. I didn’t expect to run into anyone.

“Sorry, my bad.” I went to move around the girl, but she grabbed my arm.

“Mason?”

“Uh, yeah. Do I know you?”

“We’ve seen each other around. I’m Natalie.”

So this was the bitch who had talked shit about Harper to Jenni. Janelle. Whatever the fuck her name was.

“I’ve been hoping for an introduction—”

“What are you doing?” I knocked her hand off my arm.

“E-excuse me.” She reared back.

“Come on. You’re smarter than that. You know exactly where I just came from.” I waited for her to piece things together.

“Shit,” she murmured. “Jenni…”

“If I ever hear you talking shit about Harper again, you can kiss your reputation goodbye.”

“You can’t threaten me.” She stood her ground. “Besides, it’s true. She’s a wh—”

“Watch it.” It was a low menacing growl. “Harper is twice the girl you will ever be. You put people down to make yourself feel better because, really, you’re nothing but a sad, insecure girl trying to get ahead in life. Stay away from me, and stay away from Harper. We clear?”

She blanched, tears clinging to her lashes. “I… yes. Yes, we’re clear.”

“Good. Harper is a good person,” I said as I moved past her. “But I’m not. You’d do well to remember that.”

As I walked out of their dorm building, my mouth curved a fraction. Something told me Natalie and her mean girlfriends would no longer be a problem for Harper.

“Mason, son. My office,” were the first words I heard when I entered the locker room.

A rumble of speculation went up around me.

“What have you done to piss off Coach this early?” Adams asked, and I flipped him off.

“You think this is about Harper and Coach D?” Noah said quietly, and I shrugged.
