Noah regarded me for a second, a slow smirk spreading over his face. “She’s under your skin.”

“No.”

Yes.

“I think you’re lying.”

“I think you’re an asshole.”

“Takes one to know one.” His smile grew. “For a girl you claim to dislike so much, you sure do end up spending a lot of time with her. I mean, as one of your best friends, I feel a little jealous.”

“Will you stop? Harper is annoying, and I’d prefer not to spend any time with her. But Scottie loves her, and she’s good with him.”

At least, she was until she suggested we take him skating.

“Yeah, okay.”

“Okay?” My eyes narrowed, wondering what his angle was.

He wasn’t usually so… agreeable.

“Yeah, I said okay.” His mouth twitched.

“What?” I groaned.

“Nothing. Nothing at all.”

And then it hit me.

“She’s coming to the party, isn’t she?”

“Yep,” he chuckled, clapping me on the back. “But you don’t care. So watching a bunch of horn dog hockey players paw all over her won’t matter, right?”

Right.

My lips thinned, jealousy coursing through my veins. Not that I’d ever let Noah know that.

Denial was king, and I was going to wear that crown for as long as possible.

Lakers House was at full capacity. People filled every room, hall, and yard. I’d heard there was even a line out front of half-dressed freshman girls all looking to get in.

I didn’t go check it out like Leon and Cutler, though. I was too busy avoiding a certain assistant coach’s daughter.

I’d seen Harper arrive. Damn near blew a load in my jeans at her outfit. The Ringmaster costume clung to her curves like a second skin, showcasing her perfect ass and perfect fucking tits.

Jesus, her tits looked incredible. Small and perky, and just enough to fill my hands.

Noah had taken one look at me and roared with laughter before mouthing, “Good luck with that,” and I’d skulked off to get something stronger to drink.

“Who are we hiding from?” Connor asked as he joined me in the yard where I’d spent the last forty minutes watching some of the rookies play a game of giant yard pong.

“No one,” I said, refusing to meet his inquisitive gaze.

“No one, right. So you being out here all alone wouldn’t have anything to do with a certain sexy Ringmaster, would it?”

“Nope.”
