“I hope you didn’t have plans to take a girl to your room tonight. Tipper and Johnson have completely fucked up the staircase.”

“The fuck?”

“See for yourself.” He tipped his head toward the house.

“I’ll see you later.”

“I’ll be the one bleeding out.”

That was a visual I didn’t need. But along with the expectation we all pitched in for the party was the expectation we all made an effort with our costumes.

Last year, I’d gone as Michael Myers. This year, I had a pretty dope Wolverine costume picked out.

Costume parties weren’t my first choice of fun, but I’d do it for the team.

I found Aiden inside, barking orders at some of the guys. “Hey, about time.” He tipped his head in greeting. “How was Scottie?”

“Good. Is Noah—”

“Over here, asshole.” Noah peeked up from behind the counter, stacks of red Solo cups in hand.

“I’ll be on drink duty,” I volunteered, heading for Noah before Aiden could say otherwise. “Remind me why we have to do this every year?” I murmured, and he chuckled.

“It’s good fun. You never know. You might pull a Connor and find the girl of your dreams—”

“Seriously, still at it with that shit? I don’t have the time or the energy for regular pussy.”

“How was little bro?”

“Good, yeah,” I hesitated. If I told him about Harper, it would only be more ammunition for his cause. I wouldn’t hear the end of it. But if I didn’t tell him, I feared it would eat me up inside.

“Harper was there,” I blurted out.

“Harper was where?”

“At the ice rink just outside of Rushton. Surprised the shit out of me.”

“You know if she’s stalking you—”

“She isn’t stalking me, asshole. She was already there, out on the ice.” Looking like every guy’s wet dream.

“She skates?”

I nodded. “Fucking incredible too.”

“Well, shit.”

Yeah, shit. I rubbed my jaw. “Scottie saw her, called her over, and then invited her to brunch.”

“Oh, shit. How did that go down?”

“We had brunch.” I shrugged.

“Then what happened? Because I feel like I’m not getting the whole story.”

“I panicked and called time on the whole thing.”

Not entirely true, but he didn’t need to know the specifics.
