“He might be an asshole on and off the ice, but the bunnies seem to dig him.”

“Twenty dollars says it wasn’t Adams.”

They both looked at me with confused expressions. Just then, the guy in question came swaggering into the kitchen.

“Mornin’.”

“Adams,” Ward said for the three of us.

The guy was an ass. Arrogant. Smug. And not nearly as good on the ice as he believed. But Coach didn’t play favorites, and Abel Adams had earned his ticket to LU like the rest of us.

“Enjoy the party?” he asked.

“Yeah, man. It was a fucking riot. What about you?”

“Oh yeah, the bunnies were on form. Had me a little fun with DaphneandVelma.”

“So you didn’t have a blonde over?”

“Blonde?”

“Yeah, Heller said he saw a bunny escaping early this morning. Petite blonde in a Lakers t-shirt.”

Why did the idea of Harper sneaking out in my clothes send a direct signal to my dick?

“We’ve been trying to work out who she was with, but we’re running out of options.”

Abel’s expression clouded for a second, and then a big grin cracked over his face. “Oh shit, Heller saw her?”

“So it was you?”

“Come on now, guys.” He smirked. “You know I never kiss and tell.”

I snorted at that. Shameless fucking liar. But I didn’t call him out on his bullshit. I couldn’t. Not without outing myself.

So I kept silent, imagining all the ways I would make it hurt if he ever tried to lay so much as a finger on Harper.

Again, with the possessiveness, Steele. She’s not yours, remember.

Still, I didn’t like the idea of him anywhere near her. She was Aurora’s best friend, and Adams had already earned himself a black eye courtesy of Noah for talking shit about his girl.

“Nice,” Leon said, holding a fist out for Abel to bump.

“All I’m going to say is Energizer Bunny.” He waggled his brows suggestively.

Fucking asshole.

Not that he was wrong about Harper. He was pretty damn accurate. But he was lying through his teeth about being anywhere near her.

Shit. It was only the morning after, and I already had the serious urge to lay some kind of claim on her.

Which was not part of the plan, and definitely not my usual MO.

“You good, Mase?” Ward asked. “You look kinda pale.”

“He wishes,” Abel laughed. “Isn’t that right, Mase?”

I stood, my stool scraping across the tile. “Go fuck yourself, asshole. I’m out.”
