I wanted to turn pro.

I’d always fucking wanted it, but the weight of responsibility, the crushing guilt I felt every time I spoke to Scottie, whispered that I couldn’t have it.

That I couldn’t make it work.

But what if I could?

With Coach Dixon’s guidance and his interest in my future, maybe I could. After all, he’d done it. He’d turned a teenage dream into a reality.

Harper’s face flashed into my mind. Her big blue eyes locked on mine as her pussy clamped around my dick.

I needed to put her out of my head. Focus on the things that mattered. Like school. My family. Hockey.

I needed to remember all the reasons why Ididn’tlike her.

But most of all, I needed to remember that her father potentially held the keys to my future in his palm.

If I was going to do this, if I was going to go after hockey, I needed to leave Harper in my rearview mirror.

CHAPTER14

HARPER

I couldn’t stop thinkingabout him.

Mason Steele.

Lakers number thirteen.

The cold, indifferent guy who had been pure fire between the sheets.

Being with him had been like nothing I could have ever imagined. Not only did I confirm that the rumors were, in fact, true, but I also learned that he knew exactly what to do with his monster dick.

As I suspected though—and as he’d made perfectly clear before we got naked—it was one night.

He’d wanted to fuck me out of his system, and from the cold shoulder he’d given me yesterday when I ran into him, Noah, and Rory, he’d done just that.

It stung.

Okay, it more than stung.

But what did I really expect? That we would get naked, and he would fall hopelessly in lust with me?

Maybe, just a little.

I silenced the delusional little voice. I knew what I was getting into when I said yes. When I agreed to his terms. Now I had to live with the consequences.

I shouldered the door to the bar and slipped inside, relieved to find the place half empty. Tuesday nights were typically quiet at Millers, and I was looking forward to an easy shift.

“Hey,” Janelle said as I approached the counter.

“How’re things?”

“Good, thanks. Slow. But good. Chad’s in a foul mood, though.”

“You’ll find Chad’s bad moods tend to reflect on how busy this place gets.”

She chuckled. “Kalvin’s around here somewhere, doing a stock check, I think.”
