“I feel ridiculous,” she said, still clinging to him.

“You’re not. Fear is real. Even if it’s not real. You know what I mean,” Logan said.

God, he’d been amazing. Despite being dosed up on sedatives, she was still completely losing her shit.

When Logan had first announced she was going back to Philadelphia with him to recover, Emma had been stunned into silence. Which everyone had taken as agreement. At the time, she’d thought he was simply saying it to get her a pass from staying with her family, but it turned out he was serious.

Arguing had proven useless.

Her mother had been so thrilled she hadn’t said a thing. Not that she had a choice. Emma was a grown woman.

She could have stayed with Lily, who was at work, but Emma never had to question whether her best friend would take care of her.

The thought of getting back on a plane was horrifying, but Logan had spent hours discussing how important it was to not let what happened to her stop her from traveling and living her life.

Emma agreed...in theory.

The hospital had kept her in another night, and when Lily had visited her next, they’d discussed it.

“You like him?” Lily asked.

Emma nodded. “Yes, and I know he’s unlikely to be the one, but I would like to spend more time with him. Just to find out.”

“He’s a nice man. Very handsome.” Lily smirked. “I think you should go. If you say no and hope to come back together one day, you might not.”

Maybe. Maybe not.

Logan was a very persistent man.

“I guess nearly losing my life has taught me to live in the moment. But getting on a damn plane, Lily, I don’t know if I can.” Emma had cringed.

But then this morning, Logan had arrived to take her home—tohishome in Philadelphia—and Emma had gone with him.

It was as if she never had a choice.

Like fate was intervening

“Anyway, having a beautiful woman on my lap and in my arms is not a hardship,” Logan said, and she nearly fell in love with him for it.

Which was dangerous.

Emma was already seeing a different side to him and was liking it way too much.

Harper was planning their wedding. Not that she said it out loud, but Emma could see the look in her eyes.

That wasn’t happening.

Emma might be a romance author, but she didn’t believe in love at first sight. She was far too pragmatic for that.

“Ten minutes and we’ll be in the air, sir,” a flight attendant said. “We’re just loading your luggage.”

Her luggage.

Logan had arrived with his one bag. She was planning to stay for a few weeks, so they had gone back to her house, and he’d helped her pack everything she needed. Given they were flying private, Emma had loaded up three suitcases.

Because she could.

“Thank you,” Logan replied. “Could we please have a couple of blankets?”
