He’d shut down because Zoe had destroyed their marriage.

“Yes. For a few weeks,” Logan replied to Aidan. “Now, are you coming for dinner or not?”

That was the agreement.

Two weeks and he’d fly her home. He’d set up a temporary office in one of his spare rooms, where Emma could write and run her business while her ankle was kept raised. She was sleeping a lot—or, at least, had the past few days—since they’d arrived home.

Logan wasn’t sure how he’d feel about having someone in his home, least of all a woman, but the surprise had been his. Emma filled the walls with laughter, conversation, and a warmth no amount of heat, cushions, expensive art, or antique rugs could do.

Not even a pet, which Amelia had told him he needed.

Now it felt like a home.

Having her in his bed every night was strange for about five minutes, then she snuggled into him, and he realized she was the same woman he’d been sharing a bed with for the past week anyway. Honestly, Logan was beginning to thinknothaving her in there would be even stranger.

An even bigger surprise had been the moment when he had stopped their heated kiss. He wanted her to heal. Even when she’d slid down his body to put her mouth around his cock.

“Em, just lay down and rest,” he’d said.

But both of them were useless. Their kisses had led to hands roaming, his fingers pinching her nipples gently.

Then not so gently.

Until this morning, Logan had slid her legs wide and gotten his first taste of her in days. Before she’d come, he’d had to stop. The tensing in her muscles had been too painful.

“I’m sorry,” he’d said, feeling like an asshole.

“You didn’t know. I should be saying no, but...I can’t. I want you,” Emma had replied.

“We have time,” Logan said thickly, watching as her eyes slid over his shoulders, leaving him wondering what she was thinking.

Whether she was thinking the same as him.

Two weeks might not be enough.

“Yes, I’m coming. I’ll pick Amelia up on the way,” Aidan said. “So, is she your girlfriend?”

The question was inevitable.

“What is this, high school?”

“Answer the question. Are you in a relationship with her?” Aidan asked.

Logan clenched his teeth. He didn’t have an answer for his brother. So what better way than turning the focus back on him?

“Speaking of relationships. What happened to that lady you were seeing? Dolly?”

Aidan snorted. “Dolly? The fuck, Logan. Her name was Diane. And she wasn’t a lady.”

“So, it’s over?” he pushed.

“You walked in at eight in the morning. It wasn’t a relationship. It was the next morning.” Aidan laughed. “And please stop doing that. Try knocking. You have a key for emergencies.”

Logan grinned and sipped his coffee.

“Itwasan emergency. I needed to borrow your tennis racket.” He hadn’t. Logan had seen the car in his driveway and decided to be an annoying brother.

“You don’t even play tennis!”
