“I just meant...,” Emma said, tossing the tomatoes into the salad, and then chewed her bottom lip, unsure how to continue.

She turned and stared at his muscular back. Logan wore a crisp white Tom Ford shirt and pants. And she noticed a different watch on his wrist tonight. All of them expensive.

He’d taken Emma for a drive today, and she almost had an orgasm watching him climb into the driver’s seat of a black Maserati.

Holy hell, the man was sex on two legs.

Logan stepped away from his sauce and walked to her, leaning down and kissing her. He grabbed a bottle of wine and returned to his sauce.

“Ask your question, little author. I can see it in your eyes.”

She pressed her lips together at the new nickname, stupidly liking it.

“Okay, why do you have such a big home? As a single man? A man who has sworn to be a bachelor his whole life?”

“It’s an investment. I normally live in the city in my apartment there,” he replied.

Oh.

“So, we are here because...?” she asked, then figured it out and felt her heart drop.

He turned and caught her eye.

“Emma,” Logan warned quietly. “I told you about the board. Many of my employees live in the area, so there’s a greater chance of the media spotting us. Neither of us want that.”

She knew the risks for him were great.

If he lost his job in his company because of her, she’d feel terrible.

Plus, Logan was right. There had already been a small amount of media on TV about her and the passengers after the accident.Romance author Emma Edwardshad been one of the passengers.

No one was that interested. She had a public profile but wasn’t what anyone would call famous. However, Emma was on their radar, and that could escalate anything if she and Logan were seen together.

“I get it,” Emma replied.

Hehadtaken her out today in the car, so it wasn’t like Logan was hiding her. A knock at the door interrupted him, and their eyes locked.

Logan smiled, dropping the spoon into the pot, and walked over again, kissing her. “Don’t be nervous.”

She was.

All day, Emma had wanted to ask him how she was supposed to act. Their conversation at the hospital was a blur.

Was this a relationship?

Living together was temporary while she recovered, but then she would return to Chicago. Every time she tried to bring it up, her words sounded childish and needy.

Neither of which she wanted to be.

But the truth was, as much as she tried to tell herself he wasn’t the type of man she would choose, she was falling in love with Logan.

Emma didn’t want to.

Yet they fit in a way that didn’t make sense.

Emma knew he didn’t feel the same. Or at least, she suspected he felt something but was holding back. One minute, she could see the affection in his eyes, or the way he would watch her and smile. Then he’d push it away.

Logan had told her about his ex-wife cheating on him, and that must have been horrible, but did he really think he’d never find love again?
