Logan said he wanted to keep her. He’d said he was falling in love with her. But it didn’t mean more than that.

It wasn’t commitment.

She slid on a cardigan and made her way downstairs for dinner. Emma knew she’d go out of her mind trying to work it out by herself.

Tonight, they’d talk, and she’d have more answers.

She softly padded down the stairs and was surprised to hear voices. It didn’t sound like the TV or radio.

Had Aidan or Amelia come over?

The closer she got, the clearer she could hear Logan’s voice and the tension in it.

Emma slowed.

But curiosity got the better of her, so she walked across the entrance and stopped beside the wall of the living room.

“Zoe, I didn’t know Doug was the man you were sleeping with. He joined the board only a few years ago. He should have declared it,” she heard Logan say.

Zoe was here?

His ex-wife?

What the hell?

“Doug told me he had. That you knew,” Zoe, she assumed, said.

What? Doug was the guy who was trying to take Logan’s job away?

Emma’s brow furrowed.

What the hell was going on? Why was she here and...Wait, had Logan said Zoe was sleeping with Doug?

Emma knew she should give them privacy, but she stayed put.

“No, I didn’t know. Do you think I would let a guy who fucked my wife join my company? Jesus, Zoe.” Logan then went quiet for a moment.

Emma steadied her breath.

“He’s currently planning a coup to remove me from the CEO role.”

Emma heard footsteps and wasn’t sure if they were headed her way. She couldn’t stay here listening—it was wrong.

“Then you probably need to hear the rest,” Zoe said. “Because I mentioned to him today that you were fucking Emma Edwards, so he will likely use that against you.

“Fuck!” Logan spat out.

Emma didn’t think. She simply took a few steps and walked into the living room.

“Hello, Zoe. I’m Emma Edwards,” she said, then glanced at Logan. “I think I better go home.”

He’d felt a sense of pride, despite his head whirling at everything that was happening.
