Logan needed to clear this up. Subtly. Especially if the chemistry between him and Emma continued to sizzle the way it was. This was the second time he’d seen her in as many days.

“Well, as long as it’s not a happy ever after, then you’re right on track.” Logan shifted his weight in his chair.

He was suddenly feeling a little uncomfortable. If he needed to, he’d have a word with Daniel and ask him to ensure Harper and her friend didn’t get any ideas. As a newlywed, Logan had seen women like Harper get out of control, trying to get their friends married off next.

It was like a damn virus.

“Why do you say that?” Emma asked, defiance in her eyes.

The thing was, Logan was happy to be reacquainted with his cousins after twenty-six years. He could be an asshole, but two things: one, he wanted to fuck Emma, and two, he wanted to build a relationship with his extended family.

Honesty seemed like the best way forward.

“Because men like me don’t have happy ever afters. We have pleasure. We have power. We have control.” Logan tossed back the rest of his wine and dropped the glass on the table with more vigor than necessary. “Love? No.”

He held Emma’s gaze from across the table, silently ordering her to understand his less-than-subtle message.

“Em writes kinky stuff, so you’ll be well represented, Logan.” Harper laughed, lining up her discarded cutlery on her plate. “Now, who’s for dessert?”

Kinky?

Jesus. His cock twitched in his pants.

That was right down his alley.

Eyes still locked on hers, Logan curled his lips and gave her his darkest, most sultry look. “Oh, I’m most definitely up for that.”

He didn’t mean dessert.

As she slowly swallowed, her throat bobbling, he knew there was no question Emma understood his meaning and that he’d just laid out an offer.

Now the cards were in her court.

Your turn, sweetheart.

After the funeral tomorrow, Logan had a few days to spend in NYC before returning to Philadelphia. He knew Emma was visiting from Chicago for the book conference, which was more than enough time.

All he wanted was one night.

“Em?” Harper asked. “I know Daniel will love this cheesecake.”

The brunette cleared her throat. “No, thanks. I’m not a sweet tooth.”

Oh, I bet you are. Sweet, that is.

Logan was looking forward to tasting her.
