Who was this jerk? They were always jerks until they’d proven themselves. Which none ever had.

Logan and Aidan shared a look.

“When you break up with him before Thanksgiving, you can join us then.” Aidan let out anoomphas Amelia nudged him in the side.

“Well, this has been fun. I’m going back to listen to Dad and Uncle Jonathan argue.” Amelia spun around. “Carry on.”

Logan let out a snort.

“You should’ve been a girl, Fletcher. That would have been way more fun,” Hunter said.

“Fuck you,” the guy replied.

Logan chuckled as Daniel choked on his whisky.

From across the room, Logan watched Jonathan and Andrew talking, and it was anyone’s guess how amicable it was. Amelia was there to play referee should it be required—God knew his mother wouldn’t be of any use.

The last thing his father had said when he’d been speaking to them earlier was: “Well, our parents are gone, so we’re the old wise ones of the family now.”

Jonathan had muttered something into his glass, and of course, his father had understood it and snarled.

Logan didn’t bother enquiring.

“Where’s your ex-wife?” Andrew had asked, referring to Margaret.

And there it was.

The woman who had torn them apart.

“You really want to go there?” Jonathan had answered as Logan growled,Dad.

He let out a huff.

“Fine, out of respect for my mother, but I would’ve expected to see her here,” Andrew replied.

“Andyourwife? Where is she?” Logan’s mom had added, shaking her head.

“Margaret’s not in any shape to deal with today. Not with you and I both here,” Jonathan said. It’d been a long time since Margaret had seen Delores, in any case. “Plus, I’m seeing another woman, and she’s not dealing with that well.”

Stop talking, Jonathan. The less he knows, the less he can be angry about.

Logan’s father grit his teeth. “Perhaps if you hadn’t stolen her from me, she might not be a fucking alcoholic. Yes, I know all about what you’ve been up to the last sixteen years. Hard to miss, given the way the media loves your family.”

Jesus.

“Andrew,” his wife had snapped.

“I have my regrets, Andrew. We should discuss this privately. Not around the kids.” Jonathan shot Logan’s mother a glance. “Nor your wife. This is old history.”

“Thank you, Jonathan. At least someone is showing some respect.”

“Christine knows everything. Obviously. She understands,” Andrew ignorantly said.

Logan’s mother shot him a look, and Logan just shook his head.

His father was so obsessed over a woman, his sister-in-law—or rather, former—that he’d lost to his brother, no one else mattered.

Logan saw it for what it was. Ego.
