Wow!

It was the brightest blue, with white sun loungers lined along one side. Then there was a cabana-style bar off to the left—the pool house, a miniature version of the house, on the right-hand side.

And like the front yard, there was a large green lawn cut to perfection.

It was like being at a resort full of all her new friends.

And one ex-lover.

Good grief, what a situation.

Emma flopped down on the bed and chewed her nails. She couldn’t let this situation upset the weekend. This place was amazing, and she enjoyed the silly banter and fun she’d had so far with the Dufort family.

Emma decided she would have a word with Logan and clear things up.

It would be fine.

With the kids and three couples, there were eight of them. It was hardly an intimate weekend away with just one couple.

Three nights.

She could do this.

Then never see him again.

AFTER FRESHENING UP, Emma slid on a light lipstick, ran her hands down her tan capris, and questioned again if the simple white T-shirt she’d paired with it was appropriate.

Or if she needed a jacket.

How did one dress when having cocktails with billionaires?

It felt different from just catching up at dinner before the book conference. Emma was in the Hamptons on holiday and hadn’t really brought enough clothes with her for the extended time.

Maybe she’d borrow something from Harper.

Emma slid her feet into a pair of white Vans, grabbed her phone, then stepped out into the hall.

She gasped when she spotted Logan stepping into the room beside hers. Then felt stupid.

Logan glanced up, his hand frozen on the handle, his brown leather bag in his other hand.

Emma cleared her throat.

“Logan. Glad to catch you,” she said, all professionally, as if they were about to have a business meeting.

Then felt stupid, so cleared her throat again.

She walked over to him.

“Emma,” he said, much softer than he had an hour ago.

“Listen, I apologize for this. I had no idea you would be here.” She kept her voice low. “If I had, I would have declined.”

“Ditto,” he replied, nodding. “Still, we’re both adults, so I’m sure we can navigate this.”

“Of course. Yes. What we did”—she waved her hand around—“one-time thing. We have people in common. Bound to see each other again.”
