So, as he watched her laugh across the fire, he fought the desire to join her. When she began to throw a frisbee around with the kids, Logan got another drink and stood with his back to her.

For about ninety seconds.

When she ate her fried chicken and licked her fingers, chatting animatedly with Harper, he groaned into his beer.

She was a gorgeous woman. It was just the situation, he told himself. It was too easy, when you were away from your everyday life, to fall into the bubble of others’ happiness.

This wasn’t his life.

It certainly wasn’t Emma’s life.

Then the sun had gone down, and their eyes had connected over the fire. Something had shifted in him.

Every part of Logan Dufort wanted to scream,I’m not available for what you want, sweetheart. But she’d been clear she didn’t want anything from him. It had been his feet that had walked around the bonfire. His ass dropping to the sand.

His lips telling Emma he needed to touch her very fucking soon.

Because he did.

Logan was running out of patience. He wanted to kiss her under these damn stars.

Fletcher wandered over and joined them.

“Liv’s gone to bed. Something about needing her bridal beauty sleep.”

“She’s so beautiful already,” Emma said, and Logan smiled at the little drunken slur in her voice.

It wasn’t much—just enough to let down her usual guard.

And adorable.

“I think so.” Fletcher winked.

“How did you meet?” Emma asked, her fist tucking under her chin and resting on her knees.

Logan rolled his eyes and laughed.

“What?”

“Such a romantic,” he drawled.

“Hey, it’s my job!” she cried.

“Hasn’t Harper told you?” Fletcher asked Emma.

She shrugged. “Let’s just say she didn’t.”

Fletcher laughed out loud. “So, you want the guy version?”

Oh my God. What a cunning damn woman.

“Busted.” Emma laughed. “But will you tell me anyway?”

Fletcher stretched out his legs. “Only because it’s the night before my wedding night, so I might be feeling romantic and shit.”

Logan snorted.

“Oh, this is going to be good.” Daniel walked over with his beer. Harper stepped under his arm and wrapped hers around him.
