“That didn’t sound good,” Daniel noted, walking into the room.

Logan stood and walked to the window. “It wasn’t. Young guy on my board is looking for a job. Turns out, it’s mine.”

“Vote him out. I assume you have solid board confidence.”

He did once.

Not anymore.

Though Logan had given them nothing to be concerned about for nearly four years, that period where he’d sunk into depression and alcohol was still a black mark against him.

One someone like Doug could take advantage of.

Wastaking advantage of.

As a shareholder, if he was removed as CEO, Logan would still have a say in the company that had his name on the front door, but he wouldn’t be running the ship anymore.

The one he’d fucking built.

“Unfortunately, it’s a little complicated,” Logan said, turning.

As the CEO of Dufort Hotel Group, if there was anyone who would understand his situation, Daniel was it, and Logan was in the mood to get this off his chest.

“When Zoe left me, I was in a bad place. Real bad.”

Daniel nodded and leaned his palms on the back of a leather armchair, giving Logan his full attention.

“It was more than just a divorce. She was pregnant,” he confessed.

“Oh fuck, man.” Daniel shook his head.

“Yeah.” Logan ran a hand through his hair, then slipped both hands into the pockets of his long dark-blue shorts. “I found her in bed with the father of the baby. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t me.”

“Jesus. The guy still alive?” Daniel asked, his eyes wide and disbelieving.

Logan let out a dry laugh.

“Yeah. Happily living with Zoe and their baby. The fucker.”

Daniel just stood there, shaking his head.

He’d done the same thing for weeks after he’d found Zoe with her legs spread. How she’d been able to do it to him—to them—Logan still didn’t understand.

They were in love.

Logan and Zoe been together for many years and had huge life plans. They had an incredible life together. Wealth, love, a wonderful marriage—or so he’d thought—and a timeline to start a family after some world travel.

She’d destroyed it all.

“I was fucked up for a while. Hell, maybe I still am. Marriage is not for everyone, I guess.” Logan shrugged.

“And you let shit slip at work. Understandable, but for men like us, we don’t have that luxury,” Daniel said.

Logan nodded for a long moment.

His cousin was right. When you reached a certain level in your career, there were expectations and responsibilities.

Except, he was human.
