Some people buried their emotions and closed off. He hadn’t been able to do that. Not at first.

“We don’t. A few of my board members stepped in and gave me a warning. With Aidan’s help, I refocused,”

On sex, but there was no need to go into details.

“Things have been fine. I’m still angry, but at least I found out before the baby was born and built a bond with it and our family believed it was a Dufort. Fuck, could you imagine the repercussions of more people being hurt? Some days, I hate her so fucking much.”

The damage Zoe could have done to so many people was mind-boggling.

Logan hated her, but he also still loved her in a way. They’d been together seven years before they married. Not quite childhood sweethearts, but close. Enough that he’d thought she was the woman he would love forever.

When he found out they’d created a child, Logan had been beyond happy. Finding her with another man’s cock inside her? Yeah, he deserved to have a fucking breakdown for a little while.

Except Daniel was right. Men like them couldn’t afford to. And there were repercussions for doing so.

In his case, his board would always second-guess him on some level.

“So, you have some groundwork to do in the next month,” his cousin said. “Let me know if I can do anything.”

“Thanks, man.”

“Side note, are you fucking my wife’s friend?” Daniel asked.

Logan laughed.

Of course, he’d noticed.

Daniel had always been observant, even as a little kid. Now, he was an eagled-eyed businessman. And protective of his wife.

The weekend had come to an end, so there was no reason to hide it from him.

Plus, Logan had no intention of lying.

“I am. Emma’s a nice girl. We’ve discussed staying in touch. Nothing serious, but I’ll look after her.”

What Daniel wanted to hear was Logan had been respectful of his wife’s friend.

He had.

Both of them had consented to the weekend affair and didn’t want anything more.

Well, except to continue it from a distance.

The rest, Logan was going to work out because Emma had been right—it did sound like a relationship, and that wasn’t what this was.

Mostly.

Even to his own ears, it sounded like bullshit.

They just needed a new label.

“Actually, I was going to say you looked happy.” Daniel stood up. “Fly her into Philly. Take her on a date. Might be a good look.”

Jesus, no.

Logan snorted.

“God, no. The last thing I need my board finding out about is me fucking a kinky romance author. No offence, man, but that would destroy my career.”
