Nothing more.

The man who said he wanted to keep seeing her and all but asked her—told her—he wanted a long-distance relationship.

A man who had stared at her with desire and more, thrusting into her with his fat cock, this morning.

And every goddamn morning for the past three days.

So apparently, shedidcare.

His words had struck her in the chest like a goddamn arrow. And twisted.

Thank God she’d walked away.

Emma had wanted to barge in there and yell,You try doing what I do! You couldn’t. Just because it’s seductive doesn’t make what I do any less talented. I’m a storyteller, marketer, businesswoman. People need to get over themselves. We all have sex. We need sex. It’s not sinful. It’s not the sixteen hundreds anymore. Grow some balls.

Except she’d seen his balls, and they were big.

Clearly, not big enough.

Emma hadn’t heard much of their conversation. Something about Daniel telling Logan he had some groundwork to do and then asking him if he was sleeping with her.

His confession had surprised her and made her smile. Then, a moment later, he’d torn a strip off her heart.

God, no. The last thing I need my board finding out about is me fucking a kinky romance author. No offence, man, but that would destroy my career.

Another tear fell down her face.

“Fuck you, Logan Dufort.” She sniffed and pulled out her phone.

Ten minutes later, she was climbing into an Uber and heading to the airport.

Emma couldn’t face him.

He’d want to know why she was upset, and the only words she had for him were unkind. Tempting, but sitting in a helicopter with him after she said it was probably not ideal.

Emma texted Harper to tell her she’d left and would explain another day.

Then, as the Uber made its way to the airport, she searched for flights. Finding one on Southeast Airlines departing from Long Island MacArthur Airport in an hour, she quickly booked it.

Thank you, universe.

It had a stopover in Baltimore, but Emma didn’t care. She just wanted to be home.

Emma had had enough of billionaires and sexy smirks and promises that were completely empty.

Tucking her phone into her bag after silencing it, Emma leaned her head against the seat and closed her eyes, letting the driver take her on the first leg of her long journey home.

When she got there, she’d let herself cry.

It wasn’t as if Logan was the man of her dreams, but she hadn’t expected to hear those words come out of his mouth.

Not after she’d told him how her mother treated her.

He might not have said those words to her directly, and shehadbeen eavesdropping, but they had hit home.

Logan had never given any indication he thought what she did was shameful or stupid. She might not be a billionaire, but she was making more money than when she’d been a junior lawyer, and that said something.

Didn’t it?
