Emma might have been a lawyer once, but men like Doug wouldn’t have to dig very deep to find Emma’s profile and use it against him. Doug was desperate and cunning enough to spin it and create enough doubt to swing the votes.

“Fair enough,” Daniel said. “Now, before we go, I want to talk to you about supplying our international chains.”

Now, Logan was smiling.

This was just the stroke of luck he was looking for.

If he got the International Dufort Hotel Group business, it would be at least a fifty-million-dollar deal. Possibly more.

Then Doug Middleton could kiss his goddamn ass.










CHAPTER NINETEEN

Emma stood out in thehallway and felt her blood go cold.

The last thing I need my board finding out about is me fucking a kinky romance author.

Was he fucking kidding?

Her mouth had fallen open until she clamped a hand over it.

Tears had prickled in her eyes, but there was no way she was going to cry.

Fuck him.

Robotically, Emma turned and walked back out to the lobby of the mansion and then climbed the stairs. When she closed her bedroom door, she stared at her packed bag on the floor and swallowed.

A tear leaked out and fell down her cheek.

Emma bashed it away.

Why did she care what Logan thought?

Aside from the fact it had triggered her. His words were not dissimilar to her mother’s, but Logan didn’t mean anything to her.

He was simply the man she had been sleeping with.
