Logan climbed off thechopper, his leather bag in his hands, and dipped his head as he ran across the landing.

He stopped and waited for Harper and Daniel to join him by the door, which led into the Dufort building’s private executive elevator.

Daniel pressed his thumb on the panel, and they entered, then waited for the elevator to arrive.

In silence.

Because Harper wouldn’t speak to him.

“You flying home today?” Daniel asked.

“Yes. I’ll head straight to the airport. My driver is downstairs,” Logan replied.

He glanced down at Harper, then turned.

“Harper let’s not say goodbye like this. I am sorry. I never meant to hurt her. If Daniel is right—”

“I’m always right.”

Logan raised his brow, allnot now.

“Then it was completely outside of my control,” Logan added.

“How could you say something like that?” Harper asked, shaking her head.

It was way worse than Harper knew.

Thankfully, Daniel hadn’t repeated their conversation word for word.

“My board situation is complex. It’s not about what I think, but perception and somebody using Emma’s career as an opportunity to remove me from my company.”

She let out a sigh. “You hurt her.”

Logan realized that, and God, it was all he’d been thinking about for the past few hours.

Emma was ignoring his messages, and while he knew she’d be in the air for hours, she would have seen them during her stopover in Baltimore.

Harper pulled out her phone when he didn’t say anything and went back to ignoring him.

“I’ll call Emma during the week and apologize,” Logan said.

“Good,” Harper replied and kept scrolling. “Emma is a beautiful person. I hate that she’s hurting.”

Logan did too.

A lot.

A lot more than he expected. Which was how he knew she’d stopped over in Baltimore. He’d sat searching flights and working out which one she was on, the route she was on, and what time she would get home.

His fingers had been itching to call his pilot and tell him they were taking a different route home to Philadelphia.

Via Chicago.

Except he hadn’t. Logan didn’t know Emma well enough to know what she was thinking.

Was she disgusted? Angry? Hurt?

He was hoping she would reply to his texts so he could gauge her mindset. It was clear she was upset, but he had no idea what to do about it.
