His shoulders drop. “The only person who calls me Felix, and gets away with it, is my mom.”

I plop my arm on his shoulder again. “Just because you have his name doesn’t mean you represent your father in any way.”

“I could say the same to you.” His eyebrow raises. “Luna Moon.”

“Point taken.” I chuckle. He’s got me there. I go back to fixing his tie. “Now.” I tap his chest. “What are you putting on the record?”

“I love you.”

My heartbeat stops. My hands still, and my eyes slowly rise to his. “Well, for the record, Felix Daxon.” I pat his tied tie. “I will never ask you to stop doing anything you love because…” I clear my throat, preparing to release the words I’ve never said to any man before. “I love you too. You and all your bad and good bones.”

Chapter 34

EPILOGUE

One Year Later

“It’s a perfect day for a wedding,” Chosen says, squeezing my hand.

“Yes. It is.” I lean in, claiming her lips as I have been for the past year.

Mom walks over with Zach in her arms. “There’s nothing better than a backyard wedding with the people you love.” Her blue eyes light up as she looks at each of us.

It’s nice to see Mom in something other than a prison-issued jumpsuit. She got out just in time for her grandson to be born. Brett and Cassie bought a house two streets over from the office. Mom moved into Brett’s place. She’s our secretary. We didn’t know we needed one until she took the position.

And it frees up more time for Brett to spend with Zach.

“The flowers are in full bloom,” Mom says, admiring the pink gerberas and hibiscus.

“That’s all Cassie,” Brett says, watching Cassie walk toward us. “She planted the garden.”

“Yeah, I remember when she showed up in the backyard with the bags of dirt and plants.” Cole chuckles.

“It was right around the time they started dating,” I add. She was determined to get my brother, and her efforts paid off. I even got a nephew out of the deal.

Brett wraps his arm around Cassie’s waist and pulls her to him. “She made me water the plants with her, and it was all over.”

“Wait until I make your son water the plants with me.” Cassie grins.

“Oh, Zach.” Brett taps his son on his tiny nose. “You won’t stand a chance. But I’m here for you, buddy.” He laughs. It’s good to hear him laugh. It’s a new sound. One I think he’s still trying to get used to. Fatherhood suits him.

Cole wanders over with Harper. He bends down to Zach. This poor kid. He always has one of our mugs in his face.

“Hey, let’s play a game.” Cole smiles at our nephew. “I spy something white.” Cole looks up at Mom with sparkling gray eyes, then turns to Cassie.

“You spy my beautiful wife’s dress.” Brett laughs, pulling Cassie closer to him.

“You look stunning,” Chosen says to my new sister-in-law.

“Thanks,” Cassie beams, standing in a wedding dress and holding a small bouquet. Her eyes sway up to her husband.

Brett reciprocates with a smile that belongs solely to his new wife.

“Sorry I’m late.” Willa strolls up with Selina. “We just got back from the station. I hope you don’t mind. I brought Officer Starr with me to tell you the news.”

“Officer Starr is always welcome,” I say, winking at Chosen’s good friend. “Hey, Selina.”

Selina nods back with a smirk. She can fight it all she wants, but she’ll eventually warm up to me. I’m not going anywhere.
