Those women were the main reason why Myles had stuck around for the few weeks that he had. Every time he saw them in those cages, all he could think about was Genesis. The thought of her being stuck in a cage, and sold off to the highest bidder at auction, made him sick. He wanted to stick around and fight for them, but that wasn’t his job. Men like Spider were there to get them out, and that was what he needed to concentrate on. Myles belonged to Uncle Sam, and there was nothing that he could do about the fact that sooner or later, he was going to get called back to work. His CO might be helping Savage out with a favor, but goodwill only went so far before duty stepped back into play.

“I’ll head out,” Myles said.

“Yeah, and don’t forget—keep your distance. It’s the only way to avoid suspicion and keep this mission flying under the radar,” Spider reminded.

“Got it,” Myles agreed. “Just be in touch when you have something.”

“Will do,” Spider agreed. Myles checked to make sure that no one was outside of the office and then snuck out the door, onto the floor of the warehouse. He had another day in hell to get through and then, he’d find a way to go home to the two people who were coming to mean everything to him. No matter how bad things were at the warehouse, Genesis and Gavin always made him feel like everything was going to be okay, even if he knew that it wouldn’t be.

Myles woke early to his cell phone ringing on the nightstand. He moaned and rolled over to pick it up. “Sorry guys,” he said to Gen and Gavin who both mean mugged him from the bed. “Work,” he said, holding up his cell phone.

“Spider work or base work?” Gavin asked. He knew that they were getting sick of him helping Spider out. Honestly, he was ready to be done with the whole mess too. He hated living this way and needed to figure out a way to end things with Spider without pissing Savage off in the process.

“Base work,” he said, checking the number. “Legend,” he said, answering the call.

“Legend, we need to talk,” his CO said.

“Yes, sir,” he said. “What can I do for you?”

“I hate to cut your time off short, but I need you back on base A.S.A.P. Can you make that happen?” his commanding officer asked.

“Of course, sir,” Myles agreed. There was no way that he’d tell his CO no to a request or a command. “I can be back this morning. I just have a loose end that I need to tie up and then, I’ll report to base.”

“Perfect,” his CO said. “Thanks for doing this for me, Legend. Report to my office when you get here.”

“Yes, sir,” Myles agreed, ending the call.

“I guess your time helping Spider out is over then,” Gen assessed. He had put the call on speaker for the two of them to hear. They had no secrets from each other, and that just felt natural to him.

“I guess so,” Myles agreed. “I’m going to have to run down to the warehouse to talk to him and then, I’ll come back by here to change on my way to base.”

“I have to admit, I’m glad that you won’t be down at that hell hole anymore. I hated that you were putting yourself at risk. It’s been over a month now, and there’s been no break in the case?” Gavin asked.

“I’m not sure,” Myles said. “Spider told me that I’m on a need-to-know basis and I guess I just haven’t needed to know what’s going on. He said that it’s safer for both of us if we had minimal contact.”

“I can see that,” Gen said. “But I’m with Gavin. I’m happy that you won’t be going undercover anymore. The thought of you being a spy was fun at first, but I couldn’t take much more of the worry that goes along with it.”

“I hate that I worried either of you. I never wanted that,” Myles said. “Listen, how about if I take you both out to dinner tonight to celebrate my spy days being over?” he asked.

“No burgers,” Gen insisted, holding her tummy. “My belly can’t take any more greasy burgers.”

“Hey,” Myles said, “is that your way of telling me that you don’t like my club?”

“Soon to be our club,” Gavin corrected.

“I love your club, but I’d like something fancier than burgers for dinner,” Gen said.

“Okay, then we’ll go someplace fancy, my treat,” Myles agreed. “I’ll text you both when I know what time I can leave work and we’ll come up with a time and place.”

“Sounds good,” Gavin agreed. “I need to get dressed and head to base. I have two early morning meetings.”

“I don’t have to go in early,” Genesis said. “I’ll probably be here when you come home to change, Myles. Want to drive me to work today?” she asked. Gavin had been driving her to work every morning when he headed to the warehouse to work for Spider. He liked the idea of being a part of their little carpool.

“I’d love to drive you to work, honey,” he agreed. “I won’t be long. I’ve already texted Spider a heads-up that we need to meet. See you soon,” he said, giving Gen and Gavin both a quick kiss.

Myles quickly dressed and got down to the warehouse as the sun was coming up. He saw Spider’s ancient truck in the back of the lot and knew that he’d be able to find him inside. The guy seemed to live at that horrible place.
