There’s no hesitation on his end. He responds by opening his mouth and inviting me in. His hands immediately grip my waist. When he applies pressure to my hips, it makes me rock harder. I can feel how much he wants me through his pants.
“You make me fucking crazy,” he breathes into my mouth.
I arch my back, and his mouth travels down my neck, nibbling and sucking on my skin. “I need you to be inside of me,” I moan.
I stand up, unzip his pants and peel my panties off. His hands grip my waist, and he lifts me up, sitting me back down, lining his dick up with my entrance. I feel myself immediately tighten around him.
“You’re so fucking perfect.” He groans, rocking his hips to match mine. It feels like the temperature in the room has raised about a hundred degrees.
I feel his hands grip the back of my hair. When he grabs a handful, I cry out in ecstasy. “Fuck, Maddox.”
It’s not long before we crash down together. I collapse against his chest. I don’t know if I’m exhausted from the sex or from the emotions that were brought out tonight.
“You okay?”
“I’m fine.” My voice goes cold. I need to get some distance from him before I melt like putty in his hands.
“Are the walls going up already?” he asks with a hint of sadness crossing over his eyes.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m gonna shower.” I stand up, not even bothering to look back at him, and head upstairs to the shower.
When I close the bathroom door, I lean against it, taking a huge breath. I have to watch myself around him. I’d hate to go and get attached to someone that could leave at any moment.
When I’m done in the bathroom, I find Maddox already lying in bed. The lights are off, but a small sliver of light is coming in through the curtains. I can see the outline of his muscles, his breathing heavy. I’m almost certain he’s already asleep, but he speaks when I crawl into bed.
“I’m sorry I made you uncomfortable earlier. I’m trying to tread lightly when it comes to you. I know you have these boundaries. I feel like––for the most part––I’ve been doing well, but sometimes it’s hard.”
I sigh, louder than I intended. “It’s not your fault I’m fucked up, Maddox.”
He doesn’t speak for a while. The quiet in the room is almost stifling.
“How do you wanna do it?” he asks, breaking the silence, referring to how to kill Chet.
“I haven’t figured that out yet,” I admit.
He falls asleep without saying anything else. I don’t know how long I lay in the dark, thinking of ways to kill yet another person.
The next morning, Maddox is gone, but there’s a note on the table next to the bed. I forgot he told me he was going to the job site today.
Pulling a T-shirt over my head, I walk downstairs. I need to figure out if I can be of any help with his books. I know he’d like to find out if Chet has been stealing from him before I decide how to get rid of him.
As soon as I hit the bottom stair, nausea hits me. I rush to the bathroom, throwing up absolutely nothing. I don’t remember the last time I ate anything.
Feeling a little dizzy, I sit down at the kitchen table. I really need to make sure I start taking care of myself. The house is quiet, almost creepy.
I pull out the bag of paperwork we brought from the office and open a google search on my phone. I absorb every bit of information I can find, and hours pass with me going through his paperwork.
I hear the door open, and I don’t remember the last time I was so excited to see him. “I’m in here, Maddox. I’ve got so much information for you.”
He doesn’t respond, and I start to get a little nervous. “Maddox?”
Nothing. The silence is deafening.
Chet appears in the doorway, and I pick up my phone, texting Maddox a nine-one-one message. Thankfully, Chet doesn’t notice, but he walks closer to me. His eyes are wild and he hasn’t said a word.
“What are you doing here? Maddox will be home any minute.”
He grins manically. “No, he won’t. I just left the job site. He’s busy, and oops, he doesn’t have a phone.” He pulls Maddox’s phone from his pocket and tosses it on the floor.
