We crawl into bed, snuggling up to each other, and I run my fingers through her hair until I hear her heavy breathing. I’m going to do whatever it takes to rid myself of my dad and make Sophia officially mine.

It’s about time I realized that I deserve some happiness.

Chapter 12

Sophia

“I’m already regretting this,” I mumble, hoping Kinsley doesn’t hear me.

I called her this morning and asked if she’d go dress shopping with me. She was so excited. She insisted on calling Ivy––Kai’s girlfriend––and Noelle––Kane’s girlfriend––to come along. She called it a sisters outing, or something along those lines.

“What was that?” Noelle asks, browsing through the rack next to me.

“I said I’m regretting this,” I admit, making her laugh.

“It’s not so bad hanging with us girls, is it?” she asks.

“No, but Kinsley is like a monster when you take her shopping,” I say.

“She does take it seriously,” Noelle agrees.

“So, what’s going on with you and Knox? How do you get him to talk?” Ivy asks, sliding up next to us.

“I don’t know what’s going on. He’s a Kingston,” I say, and they nod in understanding.

“I found the one!” Kinsley exclaims from the other end of the store.

“I’m scared,” I say, making the two of them laugh.

“Good luck,” Ivy says, shoving me in Kinsley’s direction.

She hands me a black, strapless dress. It’s silk, and the cut is low. There’s a high slit up the right thigh. She’s right. It’s definitely the one. It’s gorgeous.

“What are you waiting for? Go try it on,” she insists.

The girls gather around on the seats in the dressing room, and I pick a door, stepping inside. I feel like I’m about to try on a wedding dress or something.

The dress fits like a glove. I study myself in the mirror, and I’ve got to give Kinsley credit, it does look amazing.

I walk out of the dressing room, and I’m immediately met with the three of them gushing over me.

“I knew it would look incredible.”

“This dress was made for you.”

“Holy shit, Knox won’t be able to pick his jaw up off the floor.”

I feel a blush creep up my cheeks. I’m not used to this much attention.

“You were right, Kins. This is the one.” I smile, running my hands down the material.

“Okay, take it off and go pay. We have one more stop before you need to get home to get dressed,” she says, shoving me back inside the room.

After I pay, Kinsley insists on taking me to her favorite salon.

“Let them freshen up your blonde and fix your hair. It’s one less thing you’ll have to do later, and it will look amazing.”

I reluctantly agree, only because I really didn’t feel like fixing my hair tonight.
