Chapter 16

Sophia

Is it normal to miss someone as soon as they leave? That’s how I feel the moment Knox leaves the house. I just want to spend a day wrapped up in his arms with no other worries. I can’t wait until we’re free to do things like that. Free from the chains of the people holding us back from living.

Sighing, I throw my legs over the side of the bed, getting up to grab some things for a shower. I hear the door upstairs.

That’s odd, Knox must have forgotten something.

“Knox? Is that you?” I say from the bottom of the stairs.

When there isn’t a response, I walk up a little further. I can hear someone in the house… maybe they just aren’t hearing me?

“Knox?” I call out again.

I open the door, stepping out of the basement, looking around.

That’s odd. Maybe I’m imagining things?

Before I can turn around and head back down the stairs, a hand grabs my arm, squeezing tight, nails digging into my skin.

“What the…” I trail off before coming face to face with Bradley.

He looks unhinged.

“Imagine that… my whore of a wife is shacked up at another man's house,” he spits out.

“Let go, Bradley,” I say, trying my hardest to remain calm.

“I thought you knew better than to tell me what to do,” he says, squeezing harder.

“If you want to have a conversation, that’s fine. You don’t need to have your hands on me to do it,” I tell him.

“I think we’re well past the point of having a conversation, don’t you? I think you owe me some things.”

“I don’t owe you anything,” I say, rearing my head back as if he’s slapped me.

“You never would put out, that’s why I got it from everywhere else. I think it’s past due,” he snarls.

I yank my arm away from him and attempt to run towards the door. He’s too quick for me, and I feel his arms wrap around my waist, pulling me down to the ground.

“Get off me!” I yell, jerking around, trying anything I can to get him away from me.

He’s straddling me, one arm pinning me down––along with the weight of his body––and one hand wrapped around my neck.

He leans down, his hot breath on my face.

“I plan to get what I want this time,” he says.

I try to turn my head, but the pressure he’s got on my neck is too much.

“Hello?” I hear Kinsley’s voice call out into the house.

I immediately panic. I don’t want Bradley to hurt her.

“If you’re quiet and leave with me willingly, I won’t hurt her,” he says.

I nod in agreement. I can handle whatever is about to happen, but Kinsley can’t. She’s too fragile.
