Epilogue

Knox

Nine Months Later

“Go over the notes from tonight’s class. There may or may not be a pop quiz coming. You’re dismissed,” I tell my class, ignoring the groans around the room.

My cell phone starts ringing from my bag. I reach down, seeing my wife’s name flashing on the screen.

Wife.

A couple months after Sophia broke the news of her pregnancy, we hopped on a plane to Mexico, telling no one, and got married on the beach––just the two of us. It was one of the happiest moments of my life.

“I can’t believe we’re really doing this,” Sophia says, laying her head on my shoulder, looking out the plane window.

“My siblings are going to be pissed,” I say.

“We can have some grand party for everyone when we get back,” she says.

Everyone was ecstatic for us when we told them the news about the baby. Even my sister––who hadn’t talked to me in months––was starting to come around.

Once we land and get everything to our suite, I pull Sophia into my arms, kissing her deeply.

“Thank you,” I say.

“For what?”

“Bringing me back to life. Showing me that I deserve a life full of love and happiness. If it weren’t for you, who knows where I’d be,” I admit.

I know. I’d be alone in an office like my dad.

“I should be thanking you too,” she says.

“For what?”

“For showing me what it means to truly be in love. For showing me that not all men are the same.” She stands on her tiptoes, kissing my lips.

“I’m glad we decided to do this,” I say, grabbing her hand and pulling her outside.

“This is amazing,” she gushes.

Our suite is right on the beach. You can see the white sand and crystal-clear beaches, and they’re only steps away from our door.

“I can’t believe you’re going to be my wife tomorrow,” I say, looking over at her.

“It’s about damn time,” she says, making me laugh.

My phone ringing again brings me out of my daydream.

“Shit,” I mumble, hitting the green button. “Hey, baby,” I say.

“I think you need to get home as soon as possible,” she says, breathing heavily.

“Is everything okay?”

“No. My water just broke, all over the kitchen floor,” she says.

“Shit. Fuck. Okay. I’m coming,” I say, before hanging up the phone.
