“No, just flushed from the heat outside,” I lie.

“Well, go take a shower or something. I want to go out later,” she says before turning and heading down the hallway.

“What the fuck, Cole?” I say, glaring in his direction.

“Like I said, princess. It’s not over until I say it’s over.”

I watch him walk out of the room, leaving me standing stunned in the kitchen.

Tyler comes around the corner, stopping in his tracks, looking between me and Cole, who’s on his way down the hallway.

“You’re walking a dangerous line,” he says before taking a seat at the island in the middle of the room. “Losing you is going to kill her,” he says, referring to Cam and how fragile our friendship is.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I say, practically running towards my bedroom.

I close my door, leaning my back against it and catching my breath. I barely have time to register what just happened before my phone rings.

My first mistake is not looking to see who it is before I answer.

“Hello?”

“Charlotte. I’ve been trying to reach you all day,” my mother’s voice says from the other side of the phone.

“Not now, Mother,” I grit out, stepping away from the door, taking a seat on the side of the bed.

“You have things that need to be taken care of at home. A contract to fulfill. We don’t have time for you to be gallivanting around Mexico.”

“I’m only here for a few more days,” I tell her.

“If you’re not back by this time next week, I’ll send someone for you,” she warns before hanging up the phone.

Sighing, I toss the phone on my bed.

Looks like reality is rearing its ugly head at me. The only good thing that will come from what’s happening at home is that I’ll be able to finally get away from Cole, and hopefully salvage my relationship with Cameron before she finds out what’s been going on.

I lean back against the headrest. I wonder if I should finally tell Cam about my parents? A huge part of me wants to, but then I remember what’s at stake. I don’t have the luxury of telling anyone what’s going on at home.

“Charlie? You almost ready?” Cam barely knocks on my door before pushing it open. “What are you doing?” She throws her hands up.

“Sorry, I just got off the phone with my mom and got distracted,” I tell her honestly.

“Everything okay?” she asks, joining me on the bed.

“Yeah, she was her normal charming self.”

“So, she was a raging bitch?” she says, making me laugh.

“Something like that.” I sigh, throwing my legs over the side of the bed, walking towards my closet.

“We have to find some hookups tonight. It’s starting to feel lame.” She frowns.

If she only knew how much hooking up I’ve been doing.

I grab a white dress from the closet. It’s a bodycon dress that lands about mid-thigh. Cam gave it to me last year and I have yet to wear it.

“Oh my gosh, are you finally wearing that dress? It was made for you,” she says, her eyes lighting up, clapping her hands.

“You’re insane.” I roll my eyes, laughing.
