“I’m going to wear mine too,” she says, jumping off the bed, heading for the door.

She bought us both one of these dresses on a shopping trip. Hers is red and mine is white. She calls them our angel and devil dresses. She’s been so frustrated with me because I’ve refused to wear it since she bought it.

After a quick shower to try and wash Cole off me, I’m dressed and barely have my makeup on when Cam comes running through the door.

“Are you ready?” she asks.

“You act like the club is going to disappear if we don’t get there by nine.” I laugh.

She grabs my arm, practically dragging me to the door. I don’t see Tyler or Cole anywhere.

“Where is everyone?” I ask.

“They took the cab before us. Don’t ask me how I managed to get Cole to let us arrive alone. He’s insane,” she says, rolling her eyes.

“He’s just looking out for you,” I point out.

We climb into the cab; I sit back against the seat while Cam gives the driver the address of the club.

“I know he is, but it’s annoying. I already have parents and I don’t need another one.”

“At least you have someone looking out for you,” I tell her.

“I’m sorry, Charlie,” she says, putting her hand on my arm. “He looks out for you too,” she says.

If she only knew. She wouldn’t be so understanding right now.

“I’m just in my feelings,” I admit, looking out the window.

“Well, get out of them. It's time to party!” she says, slapping her hand on the seat in front of her.

That’s the thing about Cam. She’s an amazing friend. She’s been there for me through thick and thin, but she doesn’t want to talk about the hard stuff. If I told her right now what was happening in my life at home, she’d deflect.

She would go to bat for me, she’d kick someone’s ass for me, but she doesn’t know what to do if I fall apart. She doesn’t know how to comfort people. It’s not her fault she’s like that. She was never given any love or attention as a kid. I was showered with it as a child, obviously not from my parents, but I was lucky enough to have a nanny that cared about my wellbeing.

“You’re right,” I say, plastering on a fake smile.

I tip the driver before we get out of the cab and follow Cam to the front of the line forming outside of the door.

She gives the bouncer our names and we make our way inside the packed building. I wish I could say my eyes didn’t immediately scan the place looking for Cole, but I’d be lying.

What am I going to do if he stays at Cam’s house? What if he never goes back to college? I’ll never be able to go to her house again.

“Let’s grab a booth and a drink. Then we can make our way out to the dance floor,” she yells over the music.

I nod in response, letting her drag me through the crowd.

Ten minutes later, we’re sitting in a booth, drinks in hand.

“There are so many hot guys here tonight,” she says, eyes scanning the crowd.

“Is that all you ever think about?” I ask, taking a drink.

“Of course it is,” she says. “Are you ready to dance?”

What I really want to do is sit in the booth and try and figure out where Cole is, but I can’t tell her that.

“Sure,” I agree.
