I follow her out to the dance floor. She squeezes her way through the crowd and finds us an empty spot near the DJ booth. For a moment, we’re lost in our own world. Dancing with one another. It’s almost as if it’s the good ol’ days, back before I started sneaking around with her brother and made it hard to be around her.

Cam’s front is to my back, her arms are sliding up and down my body, and both of us are completely wrapped up in the music. Two guys walk up to us, breaking us apart to dance with us themselves.

Mystery man is gorgeous. He’s got blonde hair, deep blue eyes, and he’s built like a Greek God. I wrap my arms around his neck, grinning.

“Hey, gorgeous,” he says, leaning down, his lips brushing my ear.

Our bodies sway in rhythm to the music, flush against one another.

I glance behind us and notice Cam is nowhere in sight. This is what I was afraid of. I don’t know how long the two of us are lost in the music before I’m yanked away.

“What the hell?” I say, my head swirling to find out what just happened.

“That’s enough of that.” Cole’s voice sends shivers down my spine.

“What are you doing?” I hiss, looking around, hoping Cam isn’t near.

“She’s down the hallway, making out with some random guy,” Cole says, reading my mind.

“Excuse me, man. We were dancing.” Mystery guy walks up, wrapping his hand around my arm.

“Yeah, I don’t think so,” Cole says, seething.

I look between the two of them. This could get ugly really fast.

“That’s enough. Sorry, I’m done dancing,” I say, looking at the man I was dancing with.

“Got it,” he says, shaking his head in disappointment before walking away.

I take the opportunity to turn around to face Cole, putting my hands on his chest and shoving him.

“What the fuck is your problem?” I yell before stomping off.

I push open the door to the outside patio. Thankfully, no one is outside. It’s pitch black, aside from streetlights. I can hear the music booming from inside the building.

I lean against the wall of the building, taking a deep breath.

What the fuck am I doing?

“Charlie?” I hear Cole’s voice as he pushes open the door.

“Go the fuck away, Cole,” I say.

He doesn’t say anything, but I know he’s still standing out here. I can feel him. He’s inside of my bones now.

“This isn’t over, princess,” he warns.

“Why won’t you leave me alone?” I ask, loud enough for him to hear.

“Where’s the fun in that?” he says before pulling the door open and walking back inside.

I fall to the ground, wrapping my arms around my knees. I fucked up. I fucked up so bad and I don’t think there’s any way to go back to where we were. There will always be this huge thing looming over our heads.
