Our friendship is being tested right now because we’re both hiding things from each other. I hate that it’s like that. I’m also trying to put some distance between the two of us, because I’m not sure I’m going to be able to see her once high school is over.

We had all these plans to move in together and go to college together. My parents are making sure none of that happens.

School flies by and I’m leaning against Cam’s car in the parking lot when she comes out of the building.

“I’m already over senior year,” she whines, throwing her bag in the backseat.

“Me too. Mr. Anderson is such an asshole this year,” I say, tossing mine in the back too.

“I can’t wait until next year. It’s going to be so much better in college.” She sighs.

I don’t respond to that. I’m still not ready to break the news to her.

“Let’s go back to my house and get ready for the party. I have the perfect outfit for you to wear tonight,” she says, pulling me from my thoughts.

“Cam,” I warn.

I’m not in the mood to be dressed up like a doll.

“Come on. There are going to be a ton of hot guys there. College guys. We’re supposed to be living it up this year,” she says.

“Fine.”

There’s no sense in arguing with her. She’ll never give up. She’s right though. We’re supposed to be enjoying this last year. I should be having the time of my life. Especially given what’s in store for me after.

“I knew you’d agree,” she says, making the turn into her driveway.

I follow her upstairs to her room. Her house is quiet, as usual. I’ll admit it’s weird not to see Cole hanging around. I feel a tightness in my chest at the thought that I know where he is.

We both take turns taking a shower before I sit on the side of her bed, wrapped in a towel. Honestly, I’m worried about what she’s going to make me wear. You never know what to expect when it comes to Cam.

She tosses a tiny scrap of material in my direction with a huge smile on her face.

“Uh, what’s this?” I ask.

“Your outfit.”

I stand up, holding the tiny dress out in front of me. It’s yellow and silk. The front dips low, probably just above my belly button once I put it on. The straps are rhinestone. I’ll be lucky if this thing covers my ass.

“You have to be joking, Cam. We aren’t in Mexico anymore,” I say, looking over at her.

“Of course I’m not joking. I went shopping yesterday when you refused to hang out with me and picked it out especially for you. It’s going to look amazing on you,” she says, clapping her hands excitedly.

“I’m regretting my decision now.” I groan, dropping my towel and pulling the dress over my body.

“Holy fuck, Charlie. You look smoking,” she says, pretending to fan herself.

I walk over to her mirror, taking it all in. She’s not wrong. I'll give her that. I do look amazing. It’s definitely not something I would normally wear around here, but what the hell.

“All right, I admit, it does look pretty good,” I tell her

“I told you.”

I watch her pull a tiny black dress on. Everything looks so amazing on her. It’s hard not to be jealous when your best friend is a knockout.

She insists on doing my hair and makeup. Giving a me a low ponytail, curling it, and throwing it over my shoulder. My makeup looks flawless.

“All right, let’s go. We need to get there before the other wenches in our class and get a scope on the hot guys,” she says, grabbing her purse off her dresser.
