I slip my shoes on, grabbing my own purse and following her downstairs.

Twenty minutes later, we pull up to Becca’s house. Her parents own an amazing house on a lake right outside of town. I’ve been here more than a few times. Her parent’s go out of town the same time every year and we always have a back-to-school bash here.

“Looks like we’re not early enough,” I point out. The place is already packed.

“I was afraid of that, but there’s no way I’m showing up to a party before seven p.m.,” she says, frowning.

“Don’t worry, you’ll get the pick of any guy you want, as usual,” I say, making her laugh.

“You mean both of us will, because we’re both looking hot as hell tonight,” she says, gesturing towards the both of us once we get out of the car.

I laugh, linking my arm with hers.

“Whatever you say.”

I already know once we get inside, she’s going to ditch me. She’ll want to scope out the guys and I won’t.

“Come on, let’s find some fun for the night,” she says, wiggling her eyebrows at me.

“I’d rather not,” I say honestly.

“Please, Charlie. Just for tonight.” She pouts.

I pause, wondering why I’m not up to having fun tonight. This is literally my last opportunity to have fun, so what’s stopping me?

I think I know the answer to that, but I obviously can’t tell her.

“Okay,” I agree.

“Wait, really?” she says, stopping in her tracks, her eyes wide.

“Yes. Lead the way to all the fun,” I tell her, laughing.

She grabs my hand, pulling me through the house. She stops a few minutes later in front of a group of guys I’ve never seen before.

“Well, what do we have here?” one of them asks, looking both of us up and down.

I try to keep myself from throwing a disgusted look his way.

“I’m Cam, this is Charlie,” she says.

“I’m Jax. These are my buddies, Seth and Mason,” he says, gesturing towards the guys with him.

Jax is hot. I’ll give him that. He’s definitely Cam’s type and not mine. Seth is the douche from when we walked up, so I automatically let my eyes wander to Mason.

He’s not bad, but he’s not Cole.

Speak of the devil, and he will arrive.

I let my eyes wander around the room and they land on Cole. He’s standing in the corner, glaring at me.

I don’t say anything, even though I know Cam wanted me to tell her if I saw him. How awful is it that I want to keep this to myself?

“I need to run to the restroom.” I lean over, whispering in Cam’s ear.

She’s already curled up next to Jax. She nods in response, laughing as he nuzzles against her neck.

“Where are you going, baby?” Mason asks, his fingers running up my torso.
