“Now, you’re going to have to make some grand gesture to my daughter to earn her forgiveness for all your indiscretions, but unfortunately, groveling isn’t going to work for me. You fucked me over, and I don’t appreciate that,” he says calmly, pouring a glass of whiskey and handing it to me.

As if I’d ever drink anything that came from his hands.

“I’m not in the market to be blackmailed any longer,” I tell him.

His hands freeze, tightening around the bottle, before he sets it on the table.

“Excuse me?”

“I said, I’m done being blackmailed. This is over. Whatever this is,” I say, gesturing between the two of us.

“I’m sorry, but I wasn’t aware that you were the one in charge here.” He scoffs.

“I’ve already taken care of my mother’s affairs. I no longer require your assistance.”

“Is this because of that accident? Your little fucking girlfriend?” he says, rolling his eyes.

“You’re not going to come after the people I love any longer, Shane. It’s over.”

“This isn’t over until I say it’s over!” he roars, throwing the bottle of whiskey across the room.

I don’t even flinch as I stand up from the couch.

His hand wraps around my arm, and I look down at the contact, before I look up at him.

“Get your fucking hands off me,” I growl.

“I should have killed your mother when I had the chance. I should have plastered the videos of her all over the media, let everyone see her for the fucking whore she is. Make no mistake, I wouldn’t have missed with killing that little girlfriend of yours if I had handled the job on my own, and I won’t miss when I have the opportunity again. I’ll be damned if I let some little fucking scumbag tell me how things are going to go. I’ll laugh about this moment when I attend all your funerals in the future,” he snarls.

He pulls a gun out, pointing it directly at my face. That’s when Riley walks into the room. I see her from the corner of my eye before her dad even realizes she’s there.

“Oh, look who decided to show his face.”

“Fuck off, Riley.”

“Haven’t you learned not to speak to me that way?”

“Fuck you and your father. You both can rot in hell for all I care,” I snarl.

That’s when I hear the gunshot. I immediately duck, and my eyes go wide when I realize I’ve just narrowly dodged his bullet.

He gasps, so I look behind me and see that he’s shot his own daughter.

“Look what you made me fucking do!” he yells, before pointing the gun at me once more.

That’s when the cops come in and I can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

“Get down on the floor! Arms behind your back!” they yell, guns aimed in Shane’s direction.

“Took you long enough,” I say, looking directly at the detective standing in front of me.

“Sorry, we have a certain way we have to handle things.”

I watch the paramedics rush over to Riley and then see them shake their heads.

“She didn’t make it.”

I walk out to my car, climbing into the driver’s seat. I allow myself to take a huge sigh of relief. I can’t believe I can finally close the page on this chapter of my life. It’s only been about three years coming.
