“I ruined it when I went crazy.” I sigh, thinking back to our freshman year.

“Fuck you, Claire,” I yell, flipping her off.

“You’re going to ruin your reputation.”

“You don’t give a fuck about my reputation, only yours,” I sneer, walking around her.

I see Mallory out of the corner of my eye, and she looks sad. It’s been days since we’ve even said anything to each other.

“If you leave this house, don’t bother coming back.” Claire crosses her arms over her chest, glaring at me.

“Oh, look, mommy dearest is going to kick me out of the house. This is a fucking prison anyway.”

“Are you going to live on the streets, Marley? You don’t have money. You’re too lazy to get a job. You’re going nowhere in life,” she snaps.

“I’d rather sleep on the side of the road than deal with you,” I say, turning on my heels, slamming the front door behind me.

“We did give our parents a lot of grief,” Delaney agrees.

“I did more than give grief. I was completely out of it. I don’t even remember half the shit we were doing,” I admit.

“It was a rough time for you, Mar. You were going through a lot.” She puts her hand on my arm, looking at me sympathetically.

I sigh, not jerking my arm away, but moving it subtly. I don’t really want her sympathy for the shit that went on in my house.

“I should have been a better sister, maybe she’d still be here.”

“I don’t think that’s true. I’ve never seen two people more in sync than the two of you were. She loved you so much, and you loved her. It was evident to anyone that saw the two of you together. I think it’s natural to go through a falling out with people you are close to. She had a serious relationship, and you had a lot of friends.” Delaney shrugs, leaning back in her seat also.

“Maybe you’re right, but it doesn’t help me feel any less guilty.”

“I get it. I can’t even imagine being in your shoes.”

“Damn, I really killed our buzz, didn’t I?” I joke, trying to get myself out of the deep conversation.

“You did, but that’s okay. I’m tired anyway,” she says, pinching the end of the joint, so we can save the rest for later.

“Me too. It feels like exhaustion just slapped me in the face,” I tell her, yawning.

“What are your plans when we get back home tomorrow?” she asks, grabbing her sweater from the back of the chair.

“Try to survive the inevitable wrath of Spencer.” I groan, rolling my eyes.

“Yeah, good luck with that shit. Call me when he’s not around.” She laughs, patting me on the back.

“You’re such a good friend,” I say sarcastically.

She laughs as she walks down the hall on the opposite end of the house. Sighing, I walk over to the fridge to grab a bottle of water. I know I’m going to have the driest mouth when I wake up in the morning.

I walk down the hallway, pausing in front of Clark and Riley’s door. I can hear muffled voices coming from inside, and it definitely sounds like they’re fighting.

“You’re such a fucking asshole, Clark. I can’t wait to tell my father about this weekend.”

It sounds like there’s a crash… maybe she threw something at him?

“Tell him. I’m so sick of this shit,” Clark fires back.

“We’ll see who wins this fight,” she responds.
