I get the feeling that the conversation is over, so I drop it. We both walk around back, each grabbing a couple of bags and walking inside.

“Oh my God. It’s so cute!” Delaney says, jumping up and down.

The two of them go running through the house, and I turn to look at Mitch.

“I don’t like this,” he admits.

“What do you mean?”

“This neighborhood. I did my research, but it looks a lot different than I thought.” He frowns.

“It’s a college town. Maybe they just don’t know much about yard upkeep,” I point out.

“Maybe you’re right. Remind me to hire someone to come and take care of their yard. I have a feeling that will be the last thing on their mind.”

The next few hours are spent carrying all their stuff in. Mitch orders the four of us a pizza, and after we’re done eating, we decide to hit the road.

“Thanks for everything guys,” Marley says, smiling brightly.

I try to shove the knot in my stomach away at the thought of leaving her here.

“Call us if you need anything,” Mitch says. “Clark, give her your number,” he says, nudging me.

That sounds like a terrible fucking idea.

“Yeah, sure,” I say, putting my hand out so she can hand me her phone.

She looks at me skeptically but does it anyway.

I quickly type my number in, and we head out the door.

“I’m nervous to leave them here,” he says, looking around.

“It will be okay, man.”

ChapterTwelve

MARLEY

“Ican’t believe this is really happening,” Delaney says after the guys leave.

“Right? We’re finally in college.” I flop down on the couch next to her.

“I’m glad we decided to make the move a little early. That gives us plenty of time to make this place a home and check out campus.”

“Yeah, that’s what I was thinking, too. Should we hit up Target tomorrow morning?”

“Absolutely, but I’m beat. I’m going to put some of my shit away, take a shower, and go to bed,” she says, yawning.

“Yeah, me too,” I tell her, following her down the hallway.

We scoured the internet to find this house off campus. The two of us both knew we had no interest in the dorm life, but we needed something we’d be able to afford.

Once I’m in my room, I lay down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. I didn’t know how exhausted I was until now.

My phone dings with an incoming text and I laugh at the name on the screen.

Fucking Fine Ass Clark: Hey.
