I pulled my phone from my pocket, holding it in my lap and surreptitiously looking at it to see what was going on.

The alerts all had to do with Mikael, and worried that he was creating a media nightmare, I clicked on the link to see what was going on.

Silver Nugget Star Mikael Virtanenis having his own nugget.

What the fuckdid that mean? Reading on, it appeared that Mikael had gotten someone pregnant. I shook my head. Of course he did. He probably never had the birds and bees discussion.

I scrolled down, and my heart stopped when I saw a photo of Betts.

Mikael’s babymama appears to be Silver Nugget marketing director, Elisabeth Adams.

I studiedthe photo thinking it had to be a mistake. Perhaps it was an old photo or some sort of AI deep fake. In the picture, Betts looked to be standing outside a medical clinic. The photo had circled an area that showed a brochure she was holding.

Top Ten Things toExpect When Expecting.

For a moment,I could only sit and stare at the picture. It was like there was a buffer in my brain, not allowing me to fully comprehend what it was I was reading. But finally, reality burst through, and hurt and anger exploded. She lied to me. She told me there was nothing between her and Mikael, and now, apparently, they were having a baby.

So why the hell was she sleeping with me? It didn't make any sense, and yet, once again, there was irrefutable picture evidence that she and Mikael were having an affair. Or, more likely, they were together, and the affair was with me.

"You alright over there, Todd?" Levi pulled me from my swirling thoughts.

I looked up at him and then over to Dean. Because I didn't need Dean to know about the soap opera going on in my life, I shoved the phone back in my pocket and managed a smile.

"Yeah, sure. Just stuff going on. You know how it is."

"I’ve got to use the bathroom," Dean said, scooting out of the booth.

Once he was far enough away, Levi said again, "No, really, what's going on? Is your empire burning down?"

No, this felt worse. "No. I'm getting alerts that Mikael, the kid I brought over to play hockey from Finland, has fathered a child."

Levi frowned. "Well, if this was the sixteenth century, that might be a problem, but today, it's not very unusual for a young man like him to sow his oats. We did it too, if I recall."

I swallowed, finding it very difficult to say the next words. "It's with Betts."

Levi's brows rose. "Your Betts? The one who's more than the flavor of the month but that you won't share your true feelings with? That Betts?"

I nodded. "How do I do that?"

"What?" Levi asked.

"I have the worst luck in picking women."

Levi cocked his head to the side. "Well, it seems to me that until you talk to her, you don't really know what's going on."

I scoffed. "There's picture proof that she's pregnant."

"Well, you slept with her. How do you know it's not yours?"

Until that moment, I hadn't considered that. The wave of emotion that slid through me shocked me. It was disappointment that the baby was Mikael's and not mine. How fucked up was that? I'd already proven to be a bad husband and father, and here I'd been thinking that maybe I could give it another go with Betts.

I shook my head. "She would've told me."

He shrugged. "If you think she's lying about all the men she’s sleeping with, why do you think she would tell you about the baby? Unless of course she's a gold-digger like Taylor, in which case she absolutely would tell you about the baby."

I was having a hard time following what he was saying. It was like it could all be true and yet at the same time, it made no sense.

"You really need to go talk to her." Levi looked toward the restroom where Dean had disappeared. "If you want, I'll take your son home."
