I’d missed the teasing sparkle in her eyes, but I still had to retaliate. My fingers dug into her side, making her squeal with laughter until she cried for me to stop. She yanked at my wrist, trying to free herself, but I was happy with her current position. I shifted my hips forward, pinning her against the counter, and she stilled immediately.

The air between us heated, but she wasn’t done. “One benefit of this disaster is we won’t need condoms anymore. It’s not like you can get memorepregnant.”

I growled out an agreement. “Thatisa benefit. I’d love to be inside you with nothing between us.”

Chloe smiled. “We can make that happen.”

“Are you sure—”

She reached up to cover my mouth with her hand. “I love you too, you know, with everything in me—especially whenyou’rein me. You’ve always made me feel like I was more than enough, even before I let you into my pants. Also, I’m fairly new to this adult relationship thing, but I’m pretty sure this is when you’re supposed to tattoo my name on your ass.”

I ran my tongue along her palm, and she shivered against me. “Trying to mark your territory?”

Chloe dropped her hand back to the counter with a slap. “Hell yes. If anyone else touches you, I’m throwing hands.”

“No going back now,” I warned.

“I have no intention of going back. New me is ready and willing to face up to the challenges as long as I get you.” Chloe sighed and dropped her head back on my chest to peer up at me. “I need to brush my teeth first, but will you come with me to get the test?”

I slid my hands down the curves of her hips, bending her forward over the sink until my cock settled between her ass cheeks. “I’m driving, then we’re celebrating. Either way.”

Heat clouded her gaze, and she nodded.

Fifteen minutes later,I’d talked my dick into submission, at least until we had answers, and Chloe clutched a tiny plastic bag with a pregnancy test inside. I still couldn’t fully wrap my mind around the reality of a kid, but I was ecstatic we were committed to dealing with the results together.

She popped another gummy bear in her mouth, a hazard of taking Chloe anywhere near the candy aisle, and continued the conversation we’d started in the car. “I realize I kind of stole the show with my spectacular fertility, but what about Craig and the letter from your dad?”

“I’ll handle them.”

Chloe narrowed her eyes at me. “The fuck you will. If we’re doing this together, we’re doing italltogether.”

I chuckled and kissed the side of her neck. “Okay. One crisis at a time. Let’s find out if I have super swimmers, then we’ll deal with my shit.”

We reached the sidewalk leading to our landing, and I jolted to a stop. Distantly, I heard the rustle and thud of something hitting the concrete by our feet, but my gaze was locked on the man standing next to my apartment door.

He was tall and broad, built like a linebacker, with shoulder-length dark red hair. Tattoos wound up his arms and under the sleeves of his T-shirt. When he turned, the familiar scar marred his chin from when he’d snatched five-year-old me off my bike, before I smashed into a tree at what seemed like a million miles an hour.

We’d rolled across the sidewalk, and he scraped his chin to the bone. Green eyes just like mine landed on me, and the frown smoothed away from his face, replaced with a guarded expression I’d seen in the mirror for years.

“Noah,” he said.

Not a question, a statement of fact, because he’d recognized me as surely as I’d recognized him. Chloe let out a soft gasp next to me, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from my father.

“Micah, what are you doing here?”

25

Micah didn’t answer his question, and my gaze pinballed back and forth between them as the three of us stood there in the bright morning sun. They wore matching impassive expressions, like each of them was trying to prove who cared the least.

The man standing in front of us looked like a slightly older version of Noah, except with tattoos covering his arms and a dangerous glint in his eyes. I’d seen the same look both times I’d been cornered by assholes, but where Noah worked to keep it hidden, Micah wore it like a badge of honor.

Noah hadn’t seen his dad in fifteen years, and stupidly, I cared a whole lot about making a good first impression. Sweat gathered at the small of my back as I desperately tried not to draw attention to the useless plastic bag I’d dropped. The pregnancy test peeking out would make an impression all right.

It wasn’t in me to cower though. I may have had a history of monumental mistakes, but I owned all of them. I’d own this one too.

“Hi, I’m Chloe.” I shifted to extend my hand, but Noah’s arm tightened around me, holding me in place. “Noah’s girlfriend.”
