“A date like a movie and dinner?”

“Yes,” Eagle says, immediately losing his edge when I seem willing. “And I want you to sleep over and go home in the light of day like a normal person.”

“Why are you so hung up on normalcy?” I ask, and his eyes narrow. “You’re a biker who lives in this former hotel turned clubhouse. Normal seems like a step down for you.”

“Fine. Maybe normal isn’t the right word. I guess I mean genuine. When my club brothers had women who mattered, they didn’t hide them. They went out with them into town and were seen. That’s what I want, whether it’s normal or not. I want to value what we share.”

“I think I understand.”

“I also need to know you see the real me. Not just the guy in this room but everything I am.”

“And you want to see the real me, too, right?”

“Yes,” Eagle admits. “You’re perfect in here with me. I need to know if I’m fooling myself.”

“And if you are?”

“I don’t think I am.”

“But if you are?”

Rather than answer, he asks, “Are you fooling yourself with me?”

“No, because I don’t trust my feelings for you. I certainly don’t trust your feelings for me, either.”

“Why?” Eagle demands, sounding like a dangerous biker rather than the sweet guy who makes me repeatedly come.

“You’re a sexy, powerful biker with access to many women who are younger and hotter than me. How can I think you won’t get bored once we’re a genuine couple going to movies?”

Eagle studies me with the strangest look on his face. He doesn’t seem to view us the way we truly are. The night we met, he seemed to understand his power. He was standing around, picking and choosing from an army of hot, young women. Right now, though, he acts like I’m the one holding all the cards.

“You remind me of my mom,” Eagle admits, throwing cold water over our sexy evening. “You don’t look like her. You don’t sound like her. There’s really nothing about you that seems like her, yet I feel like you’re the same. Like you have the right kind of heart for me to claim. That’s what I realized when you were gone. It felt the same way as when I missed my mom. Losing you wasn’t something I could get used to. I knew if you never came back, I’d lost something irreplaceable.”

Sifting through his words, I find both red flags and promise in what he reveals to me.

“I’m not good at connecting with people,” Eagle explains, needing something specific from me tonight. “I took a long time to really trust my club family. I don’t like many people. I barely even talk to my club brothers’ women. I just want to be in my space with my people and to never feel on the spot. But with you, I’m willing to be uncomfortable.”

Smiling at his honesty, I ask, “When would you want to do this real date?”

“Tomorrow.”

“I need more time to prepare Fiona. I’ll also need someone to stay at the house with her if I’m gone overnight.”

Eagle frowns, confused about Fiona’s condition and capabilities.

“How about Wednesday?” I say and tug at his shirt. “It’s Hump Day, and I played a camel in a church play. Seems fitting.”

Eagle considers my offer, making me stew in my horny juices while he decides. His answer is a hungry kiss. He pauses only long enough to drag off his shirt, jeans, and boxers wet with precum. No matter how determined Eagle was to be serious, his body was clearly ready to roll.

Now, we finally get to play.
