Fiona smiles. “Your baby will be so beautiful.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”

“I’m glad you didn’t,” Fiona says and loses her smile. “I wish I didn’t know now. I’m not ready to share you with someone cuter than me.”

Hugging her against me, I whisper, “Are you in pain?”

“My mouth hurts, and I fell hard on my bottom. I want a hot bath later.”

“We’ll listen to a book while you soak.”

Fiona’s fingers fumble until they find my face and stroke my cheeks. “Did he hurt you?”

“Just a little.”

“You’d be safer if my family wasn’t so evil.”

“So would you.”

“I’m one of them, Irina,” Fiona insists, gingerly cupping my face. “Never forget I’m a dangerous operator.”

Rolling my eyes at her intimidation attempt, I help Fiona use the bathroom and get ready to join her father for dinner. I don’t let myself think of what awaits us. I can’t even consider if I’m in danger. The urge to run might overwhelm my duty to stay with Fiona.

I love this woman so much. Fiona feels like a child I’ve raised into womanhood. She belongs to me as much as the baby I’m carrying. I can’t abandon her to run off with my sexy biker.

Despite hoping Eagle can save Fiona and me, I deeply fear he’ll reject her. What if I’m forced to choose? In my heart, Fiona’s family. In his eyes, she might only be a burden.

RHETT

The Pigsty is overlyquiet today despite half the club being in the house. Walla Walla has a hangover. Goose is on her period, which means she must watch “Cagney and Lacey” reruns. Dice is reading a book in the tent Hobo left out on the back lawn.

I find myself on the deck, imagining what Irina’s doing right now. I’ve seen the outside of the fancy Tudor guesthouse, but I can’t picture the inside. I text her to ask if she’ll send pictures. Irina never answers my messages immediately. She doesn’t seem particularly attached to her phone.

I don’t know if that’s normal for a woman. The only one I know well is Goose, and she’s like a dude with tits.

I guess I’m tight enough with Wynonna, who most definitely loves her phone. I’ve seen her wink at it when she makes a snarky comment, and no one is around to appreciate it.
