“I know you heard me,” I growl, “if you ignore me again, it won’t be just you who gets punished.”

Her eyes go wide as she yanks her arm out of my grasp with more strength than I gave her credit for.

“What can I do for you, yourmajesty?” she asks through gritted teeth.

“Coffee, eggs, and toast. Try anything funny and your sarcastic little shirt might pay for it.” She’s wearing a cream-colored shirt today that says ‘My Own Sugar Daddy’. The whole concept is annoying to me for some odd reason. My fingers twitch, wanting to tear it off of her.

She nods at me with a scowl on her face before walking to the buffet. I take my seat on my makeshift throne as Lev and Damien walk in. I ordered the couch right after we completed the challenge as a statement. We could’ve claimed our own table easily, but what’s the point of being the most powerful men in the room if we don’t look like it?

Evie brings me my breakfast before asking the guys what they want with a smile on her face.

Why is she nice to them but to me, she’s a brat?

A random girl stops her when she’s on her way to get her own food. They’re close enough that I can hear them, but I pretend I’m focused on myself and my meal instead.

“What is it like?” she asks Evie.

“What’swhatlike?” Evie replies with a bite in her tone.

“Getting to be around the Kings all the time, of course,” the girl says, flipping her hair back.

Evie leans in close, and I’m unable to hear her reply. When the girl's face pales and Evie walks away with a satisfied smirk, the hairs on the back of my neck raise.

What the fuck?

She tries to walk to her own table when I stop her.

“Princess,” I say, loud enough that she can’t ignore me this time.

She turns around slowly with her jaw clenched. “Yes?”

I beckon her over with my finger. She rolls her eyes at me as she walks over, fueling my anger more.

When is it going to click with her that she’s not in control here?

“Care to tell me what you said about us to that girl?” I ask, pointing to the one she was speaking to.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” she lies easily.

Two can play that game. Disrespect pisses me off, but lying, that shit makes me see red. I stand up from my seat and walk over to the girl Evie struck speechless. She needs to learn that her actions affect others.

“Can you tell me what Evie said to you?” I ask her. She glances at Evie who throws daggers with her eyes, causing the girl to look down at her plate.

“It was nothing,” she says quietly.

Another fucking lie.

I glance back at Evie, who's practically grinning from ear to ear. She quirks an eyebrow at me in challenge, and I know just what I need to do to get her to submit.

My hand shoots out to grab the random girl by her arm. I drag her to her feet, causing Evie's whole demeanor to change. She doesn’t mind pissing me off, but she doesn’t seem like the type to let someone else’s head be on the chopping block for her actions.

My skin warms with the satisfaction that I'm getting through to her. I step up to the sofa for the entire room to see. "As King, I enforce the rules here, and there are consequences to breaking those rules."

My gaze locks on Evie's as the girl cowers beneath me. "I will not tolerate lies," I say, raising my voice. "So one of you tells me what she said or..."

Pointing down at the girl with my perfectly groomed finger, I continue, "she will pay the price for you both. Lies may protect ourselves from outsiders, but lies from within can crumble an empire. Make your choice."

I swallow all the words wanting to burst free. I clench my fists, doing everything I can to reign in the monster clawing through my skin that wants to show itself. If everyone sees me lose my shit here, they will never respect me again. I don’t want to rule with fear, I want to rule with respect.
