My heart thumped in my chest. She still hadn't looked up, but I hadn't closed the door yet, either. That would surely get her attention.

Why wasn’t I doing that, though?

Because I was ogling her like a dolt. Shit.

I shut the door, determined to get myself together.

She jumped instead, her head whipping up, and her eyes met mine, widening. “Oh, God.”

“No, just me. Liam.” I smiled as I walked over.

But she didn’t share my joke; she continued looking at me like I was a ghost.

“What—what are you doing here?” She blinked.

“Uh, I work here?”

Her gaze raked down my body, and my throat tightened. I was in scrubs—standard issue for my job description.

But her brown eyes flamed with something dark and suggestive, bringing me back to our first and only night together.

“No, you don’t,” she eventually supplied, meeting my eyes again.

I frowned. “What? Thomas didn’t tell you?”

Her brows lifted, lower lip slipping between her teeth.

“Are you doubting me?” I reined in my laugh. “My name’s on the door. Didn’t you see?”

“No, I didn’t. I was distracted. I—” Her eyes narrowed. “Wait here.”

"I’m not going anywhere; I work here."

She tore past me, glaring as she passed.

I watched her disappear through the door. What the hell just happened?

Ava came back in the room after a few seconds. “You’re…you’re right. It is your practice.”

I shook my head, unable to hide my smile. “Now that we’ve determined this is my clinic, can you tell me why you're here?"

Her face flamed, and she looked away. "No."

“No?”

“I—I can’t.” She hurried back to her purse on the exam table, snatching it up. “You can’t help me.”

What? “Ava, I’m a good doctor. Tell me your problem. We can get down to it.”

“I don’t have a problem.”

I frowned. “You’re at a clinic. No one walks in here unless they’re having a health issue.”

"Yeah, well, I just wanted to see how it looked on the inside. It's a new addition, after all."

“So you came sightseeing, then made an appointment? Really? You expect me to believe that?”

Her eyes flitted about before meeting mine. “Yeah, well. Yes.”
