“My, you do look an awful lot like me, don’t you?” she remarked.

I’d have thought they were sisters if Michael hadn’t already prepared me for the resemblance.

“Itisweird,” Aria replied.

Cosette laughed, nodding in agreement. “Very.”

With the lowering of tension, Aria’s wings vanished, and she squeaked, obviously feeling the change. My angel took the moment to grip her face and plant a soft kiss on her lips. “My mate.”

Aria didn't hesitate to move towards us when my angel crooned for her.

Her smile was dazzling, and she leaned into us with a soft sigh of contentment, giggling when our wings curled around her. When our foreheads touched, I was back in charge, feeling my angel settle as I kissed her again.

We need to kill Lucifer, someone new said.

Aria’s angel was practically vibrating with her fury still, yanking on our bond. I could see my mate struggling to contain her, gritting her teeth and flexing her jaw.

We can’t right now, so let Cosette and Michael handle him. We need to figure out a way home,I soothed, caressing her cheek.

I needed out of Hell if I wanted to maintain any piece of my sanity. I was feeling particularly desperate with freedom so close, breathing through the panic that was trying to overcome me.

“I remember when we were like that,” Cosette sighed dreamily, which made me realize that Aria and I were just standing here, heads pressed together and talking like there was nobody else in the room.

When I looked over, I had been expecting her to be giving Michael a look, but my eyebrows climbed when her eyes were on Lucifer.

Michael smirked as I tried to fit the pieces of this puzzle together, shrugging as he casually added more to it. “You two got along so well before Lucifer lost his mind.”

“I didnotlose my mind,” Lucifer bit back, and the two heaven-appointed angels shared a laugh like it was all in good fun, and Cosette hadn’t been ready to strangle Lucifer moments before on our behalf.

Don’t think about it too hard,Aria advised, and I nodded slowly.

Part of me was still angry with her—my angel and wolf both protested this realization—but at the moment, we were united against the person who’d forced us to play this ridiculous game. Lucifer had been briefly derailed by the arrival of Michael and Cosette, but he’d gotten what he wanted; I wanted to know why he wanted it so badly to begin with.

This was not the time, though. We were stuck in Hell with no clear exit, so we could try to work out what was going through his mind when he decided on this course of action at a later date.

Any ideas?

Aria frowned, leaning into me as we faced the trio of angels.Maybe we can ask Michael?

Well, considering he didn’t try to help me when he found me here, I don’t think he’s going to help us now.

In fact, I was getting the impression heagreedwith Lucifer. Maybe not with the method he’d used, but the fact that we needed to be bonded already.

For some reason, they both wanted our bond solidified badly enough to force it—Michael was just the one who’d managed to skate out of this situation unscathed.

As if he’d heard my thoughts, the bored look on his face morphed into a smirk, and he pressed a kiss to the top of Cosette’s head, eyes glimmering with mischief.

Then I have no idea what to do,Aria admitted, fretting.

I tried to think of something.Anything.

I breathed in slowly, reminding myself that Hell was actually a whole realm, not just a cage or even this room. The walls were trying to close in on me, regardless of my efforts, though, so I hid my face against Arias’s neck and let the panic roll over me.

We are going to get out of here, Sariel. Weare. Just breathe with me, okay?

I tried to match her deep breaths, happy that Cosette and Michael were at least occupying Lucifer away from my minor breakdown. The asshole would have probably giggled and chattered about my reaction like I was some kind of science experiment gone wrong; I couldn’t handle his shit anymore.

“And another thing.” Cosette had found her anger again when I tuned back into their conversation. “What is this about a war? Honestly, Lucifer, leave these people alone.”
