‘I think outside investmentcanbe a good thing,’ Jack said, making sure to maintain eye contact with as many of the councilors as he could. ‘But I think the most important thing to consider is how to we keep Stallion Valley as the town we all know and love. That’s vital. I believe we can do both, I truly do. It’s just a matter of figuring out precisely how we do it. And I might just have an idea on that.’

‘Yes? Do go on, Jack,’ Mr. Dupree replied, his large bifocals perched on his nose, as was his style.

Just as Jack was about to explain further, he looked down and saw his cell phone vibrate on the desk. Immediately Jack saw that it was Chrissie messaging him. The first line of the message was alarming to say the least…

Daddy, I don’t know what to do! It’s urgent!

Jack furrowed his brow. He would never normally leave a council meeting halfway through, that wasn’t how he operated.

But this was different.

This situation involved his Little and if there was a chance Chrissie was seriously in distress then there was absolutely no way that he was going to hang around for a second longer.

‘Later. I must go. It’s an emergency,’ Jack said, gathering his briefcase and striding out of the meeting room without looking back once.

With the sound of gasps and gossipy tongues wagging behind him, Jack slammed the door behind him and ran to his car.

It was time to get to his Little and Jack didn’t care how many Main Street red lights he had to drive through to reach her.

Jack’s Jaguar came to a screeching halt outside the Little Diner. He jumped out of the car and immediately made his way inside.

‘Chrissie!’

‘Daddy!’ Chrissie exclaimed, her face red from crying.

‘What in the name of Stallion Valley has happened?’ Jack said, a look of concern on his face as he sat down next to a clearly distraught Chrissie. ‘Take a deep breath and talk to me. That’s Daddy’s orders.’

Chrissie explained all about Nigel and his threats. She also described how horrible Nigel had been in their brief relationship, how he was manipulative and took advantage of her – even threatening to out her as a Little in the workplace.

This fucking asshole…

I’d snap him in half if I saw him now.

No one treats my Little like this. No one.

Jack could feel himself getting angrier and angrier.

No one deserved to be treated the way Nigel had treat Chrissie. It was a disgraceful abuse of power and Jack hated nothing more than those individuals who misused their positions of authority.

Something had to be done. And it had to be done right there and then.

‘Don’t worry, Chrissie, I’m here now,’ Jack said, bringing in a tearful Chrissie for a big cuddle. ‘Daddy is going to make sure that everything is okay. I just need to work out exactly how.’

‘P-p-p-please don’t do anything that will risk your reputation,’ Chrissie said, her voice trembling. ‘I don’t want to be a pain or be the reason you can’t run for office someday.’

Jack managed to smile. He couldn’t believe how selfless Chrissie was being, even in such a traumatic moment in her life. This was one of the reasons that Jack loved her so much, but he could also see that it was something that those less scrupulous people – like Nigel – could exploit.

But Jack wasn’t having it. There was no way he was going to let Nigel get away with what he was doing. It didn’t matter one iota to Jack what any of the citizens of Stallion Valley thought.

It was time to take out the trash and send Nigel packing from Stallion Valley on a one-way ticket. It didn’t matter how ugly things might get, or what damage it could do to Jack’s public profile.

Jack may have been a charming Daddy, but he was about to show the world that he could be as tough as all hell too…
