“I was shocked when Raya texted me to say you had quit, she was not happy and told me to fix things. When you weren’t at home, I was upset by the thought I might have lost you. I had no choice but to come here, because, Sweetheart, I was not going to let you walk out of my life.”

“I still can’t believe you came all the way out here.”

“I would follow you to the ends of the earth, Sweetheart. I love you, and if you give me a piece of your heart, I promise, I will give you forever.”

Tears welled again. “I love you too. I have no idea how it happened, but yes, I will give you a piece of my heart and cherish your promise of forever.”

We kissed deeply until someone clearing their throat close by had us parting. I looked up to see mum with a huge smile on her face.

“I’m assuming everything is okay?”

“Better than okay, Mum.”

“So, are you returning to Sydney?”

I gazed into Hudson’s hopeful eyes. “Yes, I will be returning to Sydney, but we’ll be staying here for a week.”

“You can be the one to tell your father and brothers. They will not be pleased.”

I laughed. “I will.”

Hudson kissed my cheek and whispered in my ear, “I love you more than I ever thought possible.”

Those precious words lit up my world and were all the more special because Hudson had said them to me while I was at home.

Three days had passed. Three days of showing Hudson over the station I loved and teaching him how to ride.

Mira was a quiet mare, ideal for a beginner to learn the basics. Hudson had been a natural and now confident when I urged him to spur Mira into a canter.

Four nights of waiting until my parents and brothers had retired for the night before I crept down the hall and slid into bed to make love to Hudson. He’d protested about our deceiving my parents, but I couldn’t bear to be away from him for even a few hours.

I rolled over and snuggled against Hudson’s chest. His arm tightened around my waist.

“Liz! Where the fuck are you?”

I froze when I heard Mathew bellowing and checked the clock on the bedside table. Hudson and I had overslept which meant I hadn’t returned to my room in time.

I turned my head to look up at Hudson. “Busted.”

“I’d go out the window but you’re so fucking far away from everything, there would be nowhere to hide.”

“It wouldn’t answer their question about why I’m in your room either.”

Hudson kissed me gently. “Been nice knowing you.”

We were both laughing when the door burst open.

I sat up, keeping the sheet pulled tight so my naked body wasn’t exposed. “What the hell! Why the fuck are you barging into Hudson’s room without at least knocking?”

Lucas skidded to a stop beside his twin. “You found her.”

“I wasn’t fucking lost!”

“Elizabeth!”

Mum barged her way past my brothers and turned to face them. “Out. Now.”
