“Fully furnished?”

Another nod of his head.

“Good.” She was still in her dressing gown and shift and inhaled a deep breath before untying the belt holding the garment in place. She let it fall to the floor and untied the laces at the front of her shift, her gaze locked on his. He never moved, barely breathed if the rise and fall of his chest was any indication. Slipping the gown from her shoulders, she inhaled another deep breath and let the material fall down the length of her body. He sucked in a breath and broke eye contact with her, his gaze taking in every inch of skin she’d bared.

He stared at her so long she raised her arms to cover herself but he was in front of her the next instant, taking her hands in his. “Don’t ever hide from me.” He kissed her knuckles, the palm of both hands, her wrists, then raised her arms and wrapped them around his neck. His fingers tickled a path down her arms and along the side of each breast before he cupped them in his hands and leaned down to kiss her.

She’d had visions of what her wedding night would be like since she was old enough to know what it really meant and she always imagined it would be awkward and scary but it was neither. Jesse’s kisses left her feeling drugged, light headed to the point her limbs began to shake uncontrollably.

He picked her up and carried her down the hall to the bedroom. The biggest bed she’d ever seen took up most of the space. A few dressers and a clothing armoire took up the rest. If anything else was there she’d have to see it later. He laid her on the bed and stood up, kicked his boots off and undressed.

She’d never seen a naked man before, not completely and she drank in every detail until he crawled into bed with her and moved to lay beside her. He kissed her again, softly, teasingly and lifted his head enough to see her.

“There’s no going back after this. Is this what you want?”

She smiled and threaded her fingers through his hair. “There’s no one I’d rather irritate for the rest of my life than you.”

He chuckled. “I’m sure you’ll irritate me quite well, Mrs. Samuels.”

She’d called herself that in her head so many times over the last two months but hearing someone else call her that made it real, even more so when Jesse kissed her, her body heating to the point her limbs grew twitchy again and she couldn’t get close enough.

He kissed every inch of skin he could reach and she blushed until she felt feverish when he spread her legs and lowered his head, placing soft kisses and licks on the most intimate parts of her. His tongue was hot against her flesh and she wasn’t sure what he was doing exactly but her body felt ready to ignite as he concentrated on one specific spot, the tremble in her legs growing until she was on her toes, hips up off the bed and both of her hands in his hair in an attempt to keep him right there—

She screamed when it came, the light behind her closed eyelids so blinding she was sure she’d never see again. Her body felt as if it were coming undone, every nerve ending firing at once and wave after wave of pleasure rippled through every inch of her being—then he was there, hovering above her, the entirety of his body flush against her own and in one quick second, he was inside. She gasped at the intrusion, then moaned as he moved, buried her face against the side of his neck and rode the waves of euphoria until their bodies were slick with perspiration, her lips were swollen from so many kisses and the ebb and tide of pleasure crested for a second time, Jesse following her over.

They both lay panting on the bed until their bodies had cooled. Alex was staring at the ceiling, small tingles still racing along her limbs and she shook her head and sighed. “I want to do that every night.”

He laughed so loud and long, she joined him, rolling to her side to look at him. He pulled her into his arms, kissed her again and said, “Twice on Sunday?”

She grinned. “It’s a date.”

Epilogue

There wasn’ta cloud in the sky. The sun was bright, the breeze just enough to rustle the tree branches and cool the air. It was a perfect day.

Two months of planning and preparing and he still had to pinch himself to remind him that all this was real. That all his dreams were coming true.

Nearly everyone in Willow Creek had descended on the Avery ranch and congregated by the creek where the willow trees grew in abundance. Their spidery limbs dangled toward the ground and made a serene backdrop for the wedding everyone had been waiting on since they were kids. Seems they knew this was inevitable before they did.

Rafe stood by his side and gave him a nudge of his elbow, pointing toward the back of the crowd with the nod of his head. He’d been so lost in thought he hadn’t seen them before now.

Alex and her pa were walking his way and she’d never looked more beautiful. Her dress was white and fit tight at her waist. Her hair was loose, hanging down her back the way he liked it and even though she wore a veil that was nearly as long as her dress, he could see a wreath of flowers circling her head. She looked exactly like he’d always pictured her. Beautiful, smiling and his.

They exchanged their vows in front of their family and friends like he’d always imagined they would, the justice of the peace pronouncing them husband and wife to the cheers and applause of everyone in attendance. He kissed her to the laughs and jeers of those watching and spent the rest of the evening trying to follow the conversations going on around him but failed miserably. He couldn’t stop watching her. The smile on her face was there because of him. She was happy and it showed. She was glowing. The one girl in all the world who loved to hate him now hated to leave his side.

She turned and smiled at him, then crossed the yard to where he stood. “What are you thinking about so hard over here?”

“You mostly.”

“Really? What about me?”

He brushed a soft kiss across her lips. “About the fact that it’s Sunday and our wedding night.”

Her cheeks reddened. “You feel up to the challenge?”

“With you—I think I can accomplish anything.” And he could. He had everything he’d ever wanted. A cabin by the creek, the woman he loved, loved him in return and by Christmas, the first member of that family he always wanted would be here.

He kissed her again and rubbed a hand against her belly. She was barely showing and no one knew yet. It was their little secret and he liked it that way. He wasn’t ready to share her with the world yet. For now, he’d keep her close by and protect her, and the tiny life she carried. His life was perfect. As perfect as he always imagined it would be.
