Georgia’s eyes widened. “Holy hell!” she said. “This is amazing!” She ran a hand along the plush leather seats and looked around at all the expensive finishes. The plane seated eight with nice wide seats in the back and then a separate area for Charlotte between us and the cabin. In the back, there was a full bedroom with a king-sized bed and a full shower. “I can’t even believe I’m standing here. I’ve never been on anything like this before.”

“I think you’ll like it,” I told her.

“If you’d like to be seated, I’ll fetch some champagne,” Charlotte said. “The bags are being loaded now, and we should be on our way to Maui in just a few minutes.”

Georgia squealed as she took a window seat. I sat right next to her, and both of us graciously accepted the champagne, even though it was early in the morning. “A toast—to your first trip to Hawaii,” I said. “May it be the first of many.” We clinked our glasses together and then took a sip.

Georgia’s eyes stayed focused out the window for the most part as the plane was readied and we took off. Her smile was bright, her eyes twinkling in the sunlight. “I can’t wait to see Maui!” she said, grasping my hand excitedly. “Tell me more about it.”

“It truly is a tropical paradise.” I was excited to be returning myself, but even more so, I couldn’t wait to see her first impression of the place. “Warm, soft sand. Turquoise waters. Lush vegetation. It’s amazing there, really.”

“Gosh, I hope I packed the right outfits,” she muttered, her eyes focused on the puffy white clouds floating by the window.

“If you didn’t, we’ll just buy what you need. There are plenty of shopping opportunities in Maui,” I assured her.

Georgia turned and smiled at me, making my heart flutter in my chest. Seeing her light up like this truly made my day. She was so beautiful, so kind, and so amazing in every way, I couldn’t wait to show her all of my favorite places in the world. They’d be even more special once I made memories there with her.

The entire flight, all I could do was stare out the window. I’d been on a lot of planes, but I’d never been on a jet like this one before, and there was just something romantic and thrilling about moving so quickly through the air, knowing that Beau and I were alone with only the crewmembers with us on our journey.

The moment the islands came into view below us, I freaked out a little, squealing like a little kid approaching the gates of Disney World for the first time. Beau chuckled at me, but I couldn’t let myself care how silly I might look. I was thrilled beyond reason to finally have the opportunity to visit Hawaii.

“Which one is Maui?” I asked him.

“Well, we can’t really see all of the islands from here,” he explained. “There’s cloud cover and we’re too low. That’s Maui right there.” He pointed out the window at the largest island I could see at the moment. All around the lush green, the blue water rose up in white caps and sparkling waves. Already, I felt like I was in an enchanting wonderland. I couldn’t wait to see it up close.

The plane neared the land, circling around a few times before the captain came on to tell us we’d be landing. I hadn’t unbuckled my seatbelt, so I was ready. Beau reached over and took my hand, and I squeezed it back, out of excitement, not fear. We were finally there!

“I can’t wait to see the beach,” I told him as the plane glided to a stop. “And I’m sure your house is beautiful.”

“I think you’ll love it,” he said with a twinkle in his eye. “I have some Hawaiian experiences lined up for you that I think you’ll also really love.”

Giddy with excitement, I stood and thanked the flight attendant, Charlotte, who was unbelievably kind. I’d be seeing her soon, and I hoped to get a chance to talk to her more. She was a world traveler as well, and I wanted to hear her stories.

Something occurred to me as we started to disembark. “If we didn’t land at the terminal, does that mean we won’t get leis?” I asked Beau. I had been looking forward to that experience, which I’d seen on every television show or movie where people were traveling to Hawaii since I was very young.

“Actually, they don’t do that anymore,” he said.

I felt a tinge of disappointment wash over me. “Oh.” I’d had no idea. I just assumed it was all part of the experience.

We stepped through the door onto the stairs, and I saw two women dressed in hula attire there, as well as a man strumming a ukulele wearing a Hawaiian shirt. He was singing a song I recognized, but I had no idea what it was. The women were holding leis, which made me so happy, I nearly ran down the stairs to greet them.

“Aloha,” they both said with wide grins as one of them placed a lei over my neck and the other placed one on Beau. “Welcome to Hawaii.”

“Thank you so much,” we both said. I dipped my head to smell the beautiful fragrant pink flowers adorning my shoulders. Immediately, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. This was the place to be to relax and feel all of one’s troubles melt away. The bright sun shone down on us, warming our skin instantly, which was a huge contrast to June in Alaska.

“Your car is right this way, Mr. Ramsey,” one of the airplane attendants told us. The man playing the ukulele continued to strum, smiling at us, as we got into the vehicle, a black limo. I felt more important than I ever had in my life. Rolling the back window down, I waved at the group, and the women waved back.

“I thought you said they didn’t do that anymore?” I turned to Beau and grinned at him.

“They don’t, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t set it up. Did you like it?” He smiled brightly at me, touching my heart.

Immediately, I leaned over and pressed a kiss to his lips. “I loved it.”

He pressed a button to roll the window up as the car picked up speed. Thankfully, the windows weren’t so tinted that I couldn’t see out. I couldn’t get enough of the beautiful sights out the window. Even the airport was amazing. Palm trees waved in the air, and off in the distance, I could see mountains climbing toward the sky.
