That countered everything Brandon had said. If he wasn’t over me, that would mean he actually felt something for me after that very brief encounter in Vegas. Was it possible?

I was so confused. It seemed like every five minutes I was changing my mind about him. He was a great guy and then he wasn’t. I wanted him and then I didn’t.

“Here you go,” he said and handed me a fresh glass of champagne. “Would you like to see the pool?”

“Please,” I said, smiling.

I felt pretty special to have his attention. Instead of worrying about what we were and what he wanted, I was just going to go with the flow like Trisha advised. This was fun. Fun was a good thing.

Fun without worrying about what happened tomorrow.

After dinner, the catering team served cocktails. I already had cars and drivers on standby to get everyone home safely. I meandered around the main room where my employees were happily talking and enjoying themselves.

“Blue team!” I held my hand in the air to get everyone’s attention.

The conversations quieted and everyone gave me their attention. “I promised a trip to Vegas and I have just secured your travel. The flight leaves tomorrow morning at ten. You’ll be flying back on Monday afternoon. I’ve already cleared your schedules. I’ll be sending the boarding information to your phones. Cash will be handed out when you get to the penthouse. Macy will have your envelopes.”

After hearing the news about the early morning, a lot of people chose to leave early. Macy found me and put her hand on my arm. “Can I help with anything?” she asked.

“Like?”

“Cleaning up?” she asked.

“Oh no.” I shook my head. “The catering team will clean up the bulk of it.”

“Okay, you’re sure?”

I wasn’t sure if she was asking because she wanted to stay or if she was genuinely concerned about the messiness of my house. “I’m sure,” I said. “But thank you.”

“So, it’s your penthouse in Vegas everyone will be staying at?” she asked.

“It is. There’s enough room. People will be doubling up, maybe a little more than that, but everyone will be comfortable.”

“You’re not going?” she asked without looking me directly in the eyes. “I mean, you trust everyone to crash at your house without you there to supervise.”

“I do,” I said. “Why? Plan on making off with the silver?”

“Is there silver to make off with?” she teased. “Is there a safe? Expensive artwork?”

“Maybe.”

“But you’re not going?” she asked again. I thought I picked up on just a little disappointment. It could be wishful thinking, but I was certain it was there.

“Do you want me to go?” I asked softly.

She finally looked directly into my eyes. “Yes.”

The earth moved. It was the answer I had been hoping for but never expected. I felt my palms get sweaty. Instead of my heart beating out of my chest, it slowed. It was so slow I could hear every thump in my head. “Really?”

“I wouldn’t want to go if you’re not going to be there,” she said, shrugging.

“Oh?” I asked. My voice sounded strange to me. It was higher pitched than normal, like my balls hadn’t dropped yet.

“Calm down,” she said, smiling. “I don’t want to be there without you. As in, I don’t feel comfortable staying in your house if you’re not there.”
