"You'd be escorted out by security for cheating, even if you weren't. So maybe a non-attention getting amount of luck?"

"Perfect,” she laughs, indulging my stupid ideas.

"Yes, you are."

“Oh, Kylian…” She lowers her face to her hand.

"Yes, my sweet angel?"

"That was fucking lame."

I laugh and laugh until we reach the poker club. I park in front of the valet station and I’m about to get out when Kiara pulls her cell phone out of her pocket and quickly scans the message.

“We have to go, Ananya texted, there’s a girl.”

I turn the ignition without needing another word from her. "Where?"

She hesitates for a moment before answering. "Illumination."

I wince inside. Illumination is a nightclub on the very outskirts of Wan Chai, notorious for providing a more full-service experience for patrons than most other clubs will publicly admit to. If a girl was in trouble there, we needed to get there as soon as possible.

"Ananya has a friend there who helped a girl getting attacked and they're hiding in the bathrooms, right now. If we don't get her out soon, the owner is going to find her."

I press my foot on the gas, hoping that the car that's been discreetly tailing us is following us now, the one with Frank's henchman. I have an uneasy feeling that we’re going to need them.

When we get there, men and women stumbled around outside, some watching us through glazed eyes as I stop the car in the alley next to the club.

She gets out of the car, and I follow, body tense. In the corner of my eyes, I see the black sedan park on the other side of the road and it provides a little relief.

"Can you help me? I need to rip this dress, so it's shorter. I can't go in there looking like I’ve just come off the Titanic." There's a tinge of sadness in her voice. "I really liked how you looked at me when you saw me in this dress."

I cup her cheek, and she leans into it for just a split second. "Angel, I look at you like that no matter when you’re wearing, and usually when you're not wearing anything at all. In fact, this stupid thing is covering too much of you. The less of it the better"

I reach down and find a seam and then rip it, tearing it all the way around so that the dress now hangs a few inched above her thigh. "There, much better."

She lets out a small, grateful laugh. But I can see she still mourns her gown.

"I will buy a hundred thousand more, I promise."

The smile fades, but her eyes shine with emotion. "That's a lot of dresses for someone who doesn’t want to see me wear any clothes? Were you bullshitting me just then, Mr. Baxter?"

A text message interrupts our moment and she frowns.

"We have to go in, Ananya's friend is freaking out. You need to wait here."

"You've got to be fucking kidding! I'm not letting you go in there on your own. Especially doing what you're going to do. It’s a mad house in there, if I lose sight of you for one second, I might never find you again. I know it’s important to you, so go. But I’m coming with you."

Her eyes turn fiery red. "You're going to draw attention to us. Dressed like that, looking like that! You might as well go in there with a neon sigh pointing to your head.”

I rip my suit coat off and throw it into the car, then tousle my hair so it looks like I just woke up from a hundred year nap. “Is that better?”

“No! You need to stay out here and get the car ready to go. Do you really want to leave your Mercedes out here for even five minutes?" Her voice lowers right at the end of the sentence, but the anger is no less pronounced.

"Are you shitting me right now? Do I look like I care what the fuck happens to the car? I left the Jaguar that I'd just gotten a week ago in the middle of the road to chase after you, just in case you've forgotten."

"Can we not do this now? I have to go in there."

"Fine, go. But I'm coming in with you. I’ll just hang back, and no one will know we’re together.”
