“Seriously. Were you in the room?” She growls like a naughty kitten and I can’t help it. I throw my head back and roar with laughter.

“Baby, I have my fingers in a lot of things. Even police stations. That’s the only way to know all the important things around you. You have to have eyes and ears everywhere.”

“Then you already know what went on.”

“No. I don’t. I just know that you had a meeting. I wasn’t in the room.”

Petal sighs next to her. “Just tell him. I’m sure he could find out easily enough.”

“Fine. Petal wanted to let them know that she saw the man that killed the other man.”

I sit up straight and red clouds my vision. “Yousawhim?”

“I didn’t know what was happening until afterwards but yes, I saw the man that shot the older man.”

“My father. You saw the man that killed my father.”

Victor growls next to me and I slash a hand across the air. “That’s enough.”

Petal shrinks back from Victor when he grumbles at me and glares at her.

“It’s not her fault. Settle down,” I mumble under my breath. “Did you get to look at mug shots or anything like that?”

“No. They kept asking us what we were doing there and where we worked and lived and some other personal things. They never even asked us what the man looked like or anything like that.”

I shoot Victor a look and he nods. Those two sound like they’re on the Vitrillo’s payroll. Just like we have an in, they would too.

But that also means that the women are not safe because although they faked disinterest, they’ve probably already called their buddies and given them all the information that they could come up with. Including where they work and live.

“We’ll show you some pictures of the possible culprits at my estate.” It’s the easiest way to get them where we can protect them.”

“I’m not going anywhere with you guys,” Petal grumbles and sits back in the seat, crossing her arms.

Victor shoots me a look and I nod my head.

Tally pats her friend. “Let’s go and take a look at the pictures. Then we can go home.”

Victor knows what I mean. They’re not going back home. Not until we have everything sorted out.

I turn to smile at my little queen and hope that she doesn’t realize what I’m thinking. Because if she did, she’d already be running for the fucking hills.

She’s not going anywhere after I get her home.

I turn to face Victor and see something that I don’t think I noticed before. A softness in his eyes when he sees the panic on Petal’s face.

Hmmm. No. That can’t be. Victor only lives for the family. He always has. Ever since my uncle adopted him and he became family. He was in the system for a long time before that but as soon as he got caught trying to pilfer my uncle’s wallet when he was a teenager, Draco had insisted on taking him home and teaching him the right way to do things. The way to do it without being caught, that is. We’re not a family of saints. We all know that one day, we’re going to hell.

But while we’re alive, we’ll be as much as we can. Take as much as we can and do as much as we can.

You only live once and we intend to do it right.

I turn back to my queen and smile. Little does she know that she’s about to become the queen of the underworld.

My queen.

The car comes around the corner and slips between the slowly-opening gates to my estate.

Both women turn and gasp, staring at the trees and the far vineyard as the car travels slowly up the long, winding drive.
