“Hmm. I know but I feel bad. I should be there with him after everything that happened.” I reached out to squeeze her hand in comfort.
“Hey. You can’t be there all the time. You have to live your life too. Besides, King and I will take over and have a boy’s night with him, you know he loves that. Now, stop worrying, and let’s go stuff our faces with some pasta.” I grinned, hoping she didn’t see the longing in my eyes as we got out of the car.
It wasn’t the first time she had gone on a date, and I am sure it wouldn’t be the last. I just wished it was with me.
Chapter three
Kingston
“Whatthefuckkindof household are you running here?” A man screeched from inside Aurora’s apartment. I had my key out and already in the lock when I saw Luca pull up too.
It was early morning, and we were meeting Aurora to take Fabian to an orientation at the new school.
“I am so sorry. FABIAN!” Aurora yelled and I cringed. Great. The kid had done something that was causing chaos.
Luca frowned as I pushed open the door and saw the boy in question grinning at the dining room table.
A man came rushing through from the bedroom with a huge bald spot on his head and pure rage in his eyes. He was half dressed in a shirt and his pants were unbuckled as he grabbed his shoes.
“That kid is fucking psycho.” He snarled as Aurora followed behind him. She stiffened and before she could say anything, I grabbed him by the arm.
“Watch your fucking mouth.” I said softly as the guy sneered.
“Who the fuck are you?” Aurora shook her head behind me, a look of determination on her face.
“Look. I’m sorry. He was playing a prank that clearly went wrong.” He pulled his arm free muttering to himself before he stormed out the door.
Luca watched him leave before we all turned as one to Fabian who grinned like a cat who had all the cream in the world.
“Seriously? What would you have done if it was me who used the shampoo? Fabian?” Aurora snarled and he shrugged.
“I know you don’t shower until after you have a coffee. I was willing to take that chance.” Aurora threw her hands in the air and stomped off to the bedroom as I made my way to the kitchen to get her coffee ready.
The woman wasn’t sane without caffeine in her system. Luca sat across from Fabian at the table, arms crossed with an amused expression.
“What did you do, Fabian?” He asked and Fabian put his phone down with a smug look.
“I may have put some of mom’s hair removal cream into the shampoo bottle before the two-pump chump had a shower.” Fabian said and I nearly choked, turning to stare at the twelve-year-old kid.
Luca was barely controlling himself as he glanced at me.
“Two pump chump?” He questioned and Fabian nodded.
“Yep. That guy was over and done with quicker than Kingston playing Call of Duty.” He said with a grin at me, and I rolled my eyes.
I didn’t play computer games. Give me a real gun any day and I could shoot accurate but put a controller in my hand and I was killed within seconds.
“Why did you put the hair removal cream in the shampoo?” I asked and I watched as Fabian’s eyes clouded.
“I heard him call mom a whore last night. I didn’t like that.” Christ. So, the guy had a degradation kink and the kid heard it. Luca leant over to give him a high five at the same time Aurora came back out.
“Hey. Don’t you encourage him. That could have been my hair he removed.” She glared at Fabian before kissing him on the top of the head.
“You may be a little pain in the ass, but I still love you.” She whispered and I watched as Fabian blushed. I handed her the coffee and she smiled in thanks.
“Kingston. You didn’t have to come. I know I can’t get rid of Luca when it comes to these things, but you don’t have to hang around for the domestic duties.” It was the same thing she always said. That I didn’t need to be here.
The reality was, I couldn’t not be here. Without Aurora in my life, I had nothing, and this woman was everything to me. I had seen how her father treated her, I had searched for her when he gave her over to those scum Rodriguez brothers and it nearly broke me when I couldn’t help her.
